suggestions please?

If you have a string instrument of any kind that needs fixing, a mistake you made in building a new instrument that you need to "disappear," or a question about the ethics of altering an older instrument, ask here. Please note that it will be much easier for us to help you decide on the best repair method if you post some pictures of the problem.

I just cadged onto an old Supertone open back 5 string and would like to know what to use for tuners. Is there a set of those "mechanical" sorta pegs that look like fiddle pegs? That would be my goal

I second Pegheds. I installed a set on my old Supertone banjo. They were easy to install and they work great! Wittner also makes mechanical tuners, but Pegheds specifically makes a banjo set with a short 5th string tuner.
