Restoration of a 1931 Martin 00-17

If you have a string instrument of any kind that needs fixing, a mistake you made in building a new instrument that you need to "disappear," or a question about the ethics of altering an older instrument, ask here. Thanks for finishing the post AND the guitar, Barry. It really looks great. I figured it was headed for the kindling pile early on, but you really pulled it back from the edge.

Also, glad to see Michael Lewis poking around again. I hope that continues.

Thanks Dennis. My client is really enjoying the guitar and he has already gotten several offers.

Gordon, I won't be saving the top so removal won't be pretty. But I will try to do a better job documenting it.
It sounds like you're facing some tough decisions about your guitar project.

Drawing a line and setting boundaries can be important to avoid getting carried away with modifications and repairs. While it's tempting to make extensive changes, sometimes preserving the original integrity of the instrument is the best course of action.
