Carbon fiber bridge plate

Post by Fernando Esteves »

Hello!
Has anyone used a carbon fiber sheet as bridge plate instead of wood?
Or a sandwich of carbon with wood?

I’ve used it as a sandwich. Can’t say whether it’s a benefit or not.

It’s not finished yet. It was built with Gore’s book and includes carbon fiber reinforced bracing and bridge. I use quite a bit of carbon fiber in various places on a guitar. I have not seen any negative effects except for the time that I put too much into a six string electric bass neck and made it a bit too stiff. The truss rod was not very effective.

That's one of the reasons I've not jumped in feet first on carbon fiber.

That was the only issue I have had with carbon fiber. I learned my lesson on that one. Since then I have built dozens of necks with carbon fiber reinforcement very successfully. I won’t build without it now. But I use smaller bars than most. My two bars are approximately 1/4” high and less than 1/8” thick.

Jump on in, Darrel. The water is fine.
