Re: Acoustic guitar Finishing advice
I apply Tru Oil with a rubber like french polishing. A cotton rag filled with a ball of cotton waste. Leaves a nice thin even film.

Re: Acoustic guitar Finishing advice
You do not need pore filler because cedar and cherry are "closed pore" species. I am not familiar with either of your two finish selections so I can't help you there. But I would recommend that you consider Tru-Oil which is a wipe-on varnish like product that is VERY user friendly. There ...

I repaired a beam on a gazebo, that got broken by a falling tree, with PU glue rather than replacing the beam. That was 12 years ago and its still good!

Re: ? Strength of fiber veneer between fretboard and neck
Why not rout a small recess in the bottom of the edge of the fingerboard, say 1/4 inch wide, and deep enough to take the veneer or fibre. glue it in at same time as you glue fingerboard. I did this on my last one and it works well

Make sure and wear gloves. If you get it on your hands it turns black and you cant get it off. You have to wait on skin cells dying and falling off and it takes weeks. If it is still wet acetone may get it off. I once asked on a woodwork forum how to get this stuff off your hands once its dry and wa...

Re: Bolt on issues
I made a couple of simple jigs to drill the holes in both the head block and the neck, making allowances for the top thickness. I drill them before installation. I use M6 bolts and cross dowel fitting. I drill the bolt holes at 7.5 mm in the head block and neck which gives me enough wiggle room when...

Don't say it is only technology there is a skill, that I don't possess, in doing the CAD drawings etc to get the cutter to work in the first place.

Biggest issue I have is, I don't fancy ever having to replace the bridge plate on one of these!

You could try Osmo polyx Raw oil but think it dries matte

I had a problem like this with a shop vac. Turned out to be very fine dust in the switch. Could try giving the switches a blast of switch cleaner.

Re: Cutting purfling after gluing
I presume you have made extra wide purfling and bent it and now trying to cut them down to width? That is why people cut them before they bend them! Almost impossible to support the waist area however you cut it.

You could use splines or biscuits in the joints to strengthen them and put a one piece faceplate over the lot.

Re: Truoil application
I apply it with a rag like you with thin coats in a circular motion then finish with light strokes with the grain. I put on one coat a day and may be do 8 coats in total. As said above not much cutting back is needed and i use one of the fine Webrex pads wrapped around a wooden block to avoid tramli...

Re: Loss of bass lowering the saddle?
A picture of the bridge would help. Could be lowering the bridge saddle has reduced the break angle of the base strings too much which could affect the volume of the base strings.

Number 3 Celtic themed 12 fret 000
This is guitar number 3. I wanted to use local timer as much as I could and went with a celtic theme for the decoration. Scoop cutaway and arm bevel. I followed Hesh’s method of setting the neck angle and set up that he has posted on OLF Forum and it came out bang on first time around. Frets were pr...
