Cool, guys! Gives me something to experiment with. Hope to spend some time over the weekend trying to make some practice bridges out of softwood... maybe one or two out of some mahogany I have that is close to the right thickness... while I wait for some rosewood blanks to come.

Re: String spacing for new bridge
Hi Peter; Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm leaning towards trying to make a new bridge. I had thought of an approach for cutting the saddle slot with a drill press to drill a million holes along the line and then using a file to finish and clean up the slot. After reading your suggestion when ...

String spacing for new bridge
Project is an early 70s made-in-Japan Epiphone (FT-130 I believe, OtToMH). Replacing the original, adjustable semi-bolt on bridge, because the adjustable saddles suck, and because it had split across the string holes and the back part of it was pulling a hump into the top. Intend to replace with a f...

Re: Anybody paint their pickguards?
I've just seen that WD Music does pickgaurds in blue, as well as some other solid colors, pearloids and patterns (some of which are pretty stupid).

Anybody paint their pickguards?
I asked my GF what color she thought I should go with on a couple of already colored strat-style bods I've picked up. She says: "This one should be dark blue." Ummm, that's not really a choice, I replied. The question was more like 'given that the guitar is blue, and the pickups are black,...

Re: Canned shellac
Thanks Mark. Extremely useful to know. See, this is one of the things that makes dealing with finishing materials so hard: sometimes it just seems impossible to determine just what stuff is. On the Zinsser web page for what they call 'Sanding Sealer' they nowhere indicate that this is in fact shella...

Re: Canned shellac
OK, so I see that Zinsser and Bulls Eye are the same thing. It looks like it comes in 'clear' and 'amber'. Can anyone say how 'clear' the 'clear' is? I'm looking at a guitar body that's already got some color on it - the finish was either never completed, or it was partially stripped off... either w...

Canned shellac
Is canned shellac, of the type sold in hardware stores, of any use? I think the brand that's most common around here is Bullseye. Or is it hopeless and should we all buy flakes?
Thanks.
