Hi.
I came across some anigre which is an african hardwood and 'googled' its various uses.
Has anyone here used it in guitar making? and, if so are there any pitfalls?
In short I would really appreciate any first hand knowledge re anigre at all.
Thanks,
Rob.

relief in a classical guitar neck
Hi. Regarding fret levelling and neck relief in a classical neck with no truss rod - can someone offer me some advice please? . I can machine the appropriate degree of relief on the fingerboard - but then I thought - well, when I level the frets the relief in effect will be nullified because relief ...

Re: locating cuase of buzz/hum.
Thanks for the info. It looks like the earth wire from the bridge to the ground point isn't continuous. I touch a wire from the bridge to the pickup switch and the noise abates. I am still nonplussed :o) as to how this might've happened , bur more so with the prospect of withdrawing a bridge-post an...

locating cuase of buzz/hum.
Hi. I have a hum that is leaving me non-plussed. I have measured the resistance of all possible pairings - jack, tone, volume, switch, pickup 1, pickup 2 (covers) and always get a zero reading. I have used a common ground for all components ie each ground wire is individually soldered to the 'common...

Re: about the dovetail neck joint
HI. are their diagrams of an archtop bolt on? I thought it would be impossible through the f holes. Can you suggest where I read up on it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: CAD modeling archtop guitars
These are more affordable: https://www.luthiertool.com/cad_tutorials.html They're in Rhino 3D but of course the input and output are the same so they might be helpful. The style may not suit everybody, they're quite long, Also for modelling necks in general the vids by Helix guitars are good but at ...

about the dovetail neck joint
Hi. I am going to make an arch-top - starting with the neck - using CNC where feasible. Starting with the neck - I am separating three dimensional surfaces from planar surfaces in order to use fluting or perhaps moulding cuts rather than 3D modelling cuts. It seems possible to orient the model to do...

Taylor type fuse - positioning
Hi.
I recently saw that Taylor electric guitars have a fuse in the control cavity to prevent accidental death.
In general terms where should such a fuse be in a general guitar circuit?
Thanks,Rob.

de gluing question
Hi. I have just been entertaining myself removing a fretboard from a neck with heat vinegar and a putty knife...with a view to re-using both. I've yet to completely clean up the gluing surfaces ready for the next iteration. Having got all the titebond residue off the surfaces and lightly sanding etc...

fastening ES type harness...
Hi. I'm playing with a 'dry run' of an ES type semi hollow body guitar. (in pine) I've watched videos done a harness and am going to glue on a pine back to practise mounting the pots jack and switch. While playing with them with no back on it's become clear to me that I'm not getting the nuts snugg...

binding multiple ply
HI.
I'm going to do 5 ply binding - is it feasible to glue the 5 strips together first and then glue them on? Or is it better to apply (say) 2 strips then 2 strips then the thicker outer strip?
I did a three ply all in one but would like to know if 5 at once is a step too far.
Thanks,
Rob.

confounding buzz
Hi. I have a strat with a wilkinson trem which I made some time ago. The E1st string has developed a rattle all the way up ie on each fret , from about fret 10 and it even buzzes loudly on the very last fret. The string is not touching the end of the neck or the pickups. I have put plumbers' tape ar...

Re: What electric guitars have you built because you couldn't buy it?
What got me into this whole pursuit was a photo of the CS 356 - a scaled down ES335 - much more user friendly - well with kids mortgage etc etc I didn't contemplate buying one so decided to have a go at building it. Warts and all I was thrilled with the result and brought it in well under $800.00. (...
