I have a customer's guitar that has a defective pickup,
DeArmond goldtone humbucker,
I have some spares (3 neck and 2 bridge) but it took a long time to collect them and I don't want to part with them.
Does anybody know of a very close sounding pickup I could put in the customers guitar, I don't have any first hand knowledge of any.
DeArmond goldtone humbucker, anyone know of any pickups that sound the same?

Hi Art,
Is the pickup potted or can it be disassembled (and repaired)? If it can be repaired and you don't work on pick-ups, I would recommend sending it to Curtis Novak. He's rebuilt all kinds of pick-ups.
Or it's back to ebay.

Thanks that is great to hear I did not know of any reputable pick repair services.
So many people just say just buy something new, but these
(when in working condition) have a very nice tone.
Since I am more a modder than a builder, and all my experience is with guys wanting metal sounds and putting in hi gain pick ups,
I had no clue what would be a good match.
I will pass on the info to the owner of the pick up and let him deal direct as I am backed up currently.
Do you have any contact info?
I did a member search and did not find him.

I think Jason Lollar just released his revision of a gold top. It might be worth giving him a call. He tends to do his homework well on the repros. I can't remember if his is a single coil or a humbucker. Most of those DeArmonds are extremely tricky to rewind as the bobbin material breaks down over time and the wire is very thin, either 44 or 45 AWG.

I check that out as well.
I know Lollar had a "gold foil" pickup which is single pu there are several popular dearmond single coils being reproduced.
Also as they were in production so long not as hard to find.
But the "gold tone" humbucker was not in production as long does not seem to be as popular that others have reproduced them.
