Cherry 00

Post by Andy Bounsall »

Haven’t posted a build for awhile so here’s a cherry and birdseye maple 00 that I recently completed on spec. Top is sitka spruce. Neck is cherry. Rosewood fretboard, bridge, rosette ring, and purfling lines. Schertler open back tuners. Scale is 24.75”. Finish is amber shellac topped with Target EM6000. I’m not great at describing how a guitar sounds, but I’d say this one has a nicely focussed, mellow sound. Enjoy the photos!

Nice looking guitar. I like the smaller size guitars. Cherry takes on a nice coloration with age, and I love the way it works. I've used on furniture but not for a guitar. I'm big on using local wood and we took down an old cherry tree two years ago. Still have two 3' diameter logs I started cutting up, but it's a load of work with a chain saw, sledge and wedge. Your post reminds me I better get with it.
