is this Alder?

Ask your wood and other materials questions here. Please DO NOT post pictures and ask us to identify your wood, we have found that accurate ID is nearly impossible, and such discussions will be deleted. Thanks.

is this Alder?

Post by Leonardo Silva »

ok, ok, wait a moment, I know I shouldn't ask to identify wood, but this is actually a washburn guitar body, Chicago Series with a quilted maple veneer, I need to know if this is basswood or Alder.

I think it's alder, Basswood is way more creamy looking and plain and boring and awfull and IwanttothrowawaythisthingifisjustcheapbasswoodlikeIbanez.

either way, I don't know if this comes from Korea or China, they told me the Korean Chicago series is actually good, I'll make a build thread when I start on this :)

It's not not alder. I'd give it a 75% chance of being alder.

Looks like alder to me. Definitely not basswood. Doesn't look like meranti, agathis, or other mystery wood.

Could be big leaf maple or alder. Or? The figure in the face cap looks like figure I have seen in big leaf, and the back is just much less figured.
