Re: Lacquer spray painting process
On second thought, I guess coloring the vinyl sealer is a mute point since if the vinyl sealer also acts as my primer/filler then I will be level sanding it. I don’t want to level sand my color coats. So would it be correct to apply the vinyl sealer first, level sand it, then color my Behlen’s strin...

Lacquer spray painting process
Hi All I’m having trouble finding the complete lacquer spray painting process. (HVLP turbine, not spray cans.) I know the 2K auto paint process which is; primer, then base (color), then clear. What is the equivalent in lacquer? I purchased Behlen’s vinyl sealer lacquer, stringed instrument lacquer a...

Re: Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Something interesting to note.
I never get OP on the sides. Only the back and front.
I wonder why?

Re: Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Hi Paul and Brian Thanks for your replies. If you read my initial post here you’ll see that the sanding does me no good as my OP starts at the first layer, and you’ll see that I am using Cromax 2k BC/CC. I’d love to hear from somebody, anybody, that has been able to get a professional clear finish s...

Re: Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Hi Barry The thing is is that you bring up an interesting idea which I have never seen discussed. Can a layer of clear go on too thick and thus create OP rather than run? My OP issue is my one single issue preventing me from selling my guitars. I have a pretty cool and innovative guitar but I cannot...

Re: Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Hi Barry Thanks for your reply. With all due respect, everything I have read about OP is the opposite of what you just said regarding the liquid. What I have read is that it can be from either too thick a liquid or to far from the work piece. Supplemental to that would be spraying too fast. In other...

Sanding flat and level
Hi All
I’m curious what techniques you may use in insuring a flat and level surface on your solid bodies so that later in the painting process you have no highs and lows.
Do you use raking light?
Do you use a guide coat?
If you find a high or a low, what’s your approach in leveling it?

Re: Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Hi David
I thought the Cromax was stupid expensive already.
I leave the bodies in the paint booth for an hour to acclimate to the ambient temp before I paint.
65 to 70 is the usual temp in there.
I don’t have any compressed air.
Have you sprayed clear OP free?

Can a 3 turbine HVLP gun spray clear without OP?
Hi All This is my first post so I will make it about my number one guitar making nemesis - orange peel. I have the Fuji Mini-Mite 3 with the T75G gravity feed gun with the stock 1.3 cap. So far I have tried Single Stage and for the last year Cromax 2K paints. My spray booth is usually in the 60’s to...
