Re: Video showing construction of a Persian/Iranian Tar

The maker clearly knows his material and knows the instrument. Very few measurements are shown. Unless he left that out, other than a than those few templates, he’s simply proportioning and eyeballing. I wonder how much natural variation is expected in each tar.

Thanks for posting!

Re: June 2020- How/What is everyone doing?

It’s been good to check in here and have one more small connection to a wider world. We got Covid in December as well - it was a miserable week or two, but no respiratory issues. Still some fatigue. Mostly I’ve been rewriting my shop, and fixing dumb issues (like dropping an oversized breaker lug in...

Re: Wow! Rulers Are Not the Same! Recommend An Accurate Straight-Edge?

You know, I've known this in the past but I forget it. So easy to just assume the tool does the job it's meant for. I'm in the same boat as Bob with things not quite fitting sometimes. The danger with measuring more consitently is that the only thing left to blame is my own sloppiness.

Re: Oak Classical

Man, that guitar looks like a living thing. Awesome. I've got a ton of red oak milled up from some storm damage here. The most of it will be flooring for my shop, and a tiny house, but I'm holding back the clear QS stuff, and you've given me some inspiration. How does the unfilled oak feel? Any diff...

Cool. I haven't played instruments from either builder. Can you perceive, if not a difference in quality, a general difference in tone?

Re: Body carve

That’s a nice slice there. Very satisfying.

Tangentially, your process reminded me of *something* I used to see on TV in the 70s. It’s just ringing a bell, especially the 4th photo. Maybe from PBS.

Huh... I’ll stay awake on that for a while tonight.

I really dig your headstock logo. And the rest of the guitar looks really nice - colors, shapes, grain complement each other well.
