Veneer source
I make my own purflings and rosettes and have always bought veneer from LMI. They had a good selection of colors/thicknesses. Can anyone suggest a good alternative source, now that LMI is going/gone away?

Re: cloth tape side reinforcement
Thank you Alan. I didn't realize that cotton-poly tape was so thin.

cloth tape side reinforcement
I've read of using poly-cloth strips as side reinforcements that are placed first, then the linings over that. Doesn't that create a slight gap between the lining and the side adjacent to the tape that could cause peeling of the lining? Is this a non-issue? i've always built with laminated sides (un...

Bob and Alan,
are you using the .011 or the thinner .005 SM material?

Clear pick guard on FP'd top
I have an OM with a French polished top that i am hoping to put a clear pick guard on. Frank Ford has a nice video on the process, however he uses water to help eliminate bubbles under the guard during placement. With shellac, i'm concerned of the outcome using even a little bit of water, but leavin...

Re: removing epoxied fretboard
Thanks for the help gents. "...pop goes your weasel." you weren't kidding Barry. i've never had a board come loose but this came off so cleanly it surprised me. I've always built classicals with no truss rod, this is the first SS, with a rod. Made me wonder how adjusting a rod doesn't pop ...

removing epoxied fretboard
Any tips on removing a fretboard glued down with epoxy? Board moved a little and needs to come off. I'll use a heat blanket. Will the epoxy start to release at about the same temp as TB would?

Re: Oil-varnish finish repairability
Alan, thanks again. I've heard lots of positives regarding oil-varnish finished guitars. Never had one in my lab however.

Re: Oil-varnish finish repairability
Thank you Alan. Is it best sprayed, or does it lend itself to brush application as well?

Oil-varnish finish repairability
To what extent are oil-varnish finishes repairable? My finish experience is limited to traditional FP with plain shellac, and RoyalLac. 2 ends of the spectrum. Where does oil-varnish fall on this spectrum?

Uke neck angle
Do most build with no neck angle? The plans i'm working from have the neck and top co-planar. seems like i'll end up with a very thin fretboard if i shoot for 10-12mm off the top at the saddle and 2mm above the fret crown at the 12th.

Re: SawStop and fret slotting
Chris, i have a Benchdog table extension which took the place of the SS melamine covered extension. I already had a Jessem Mast -r- lift on my dedicated router table that fit right in it. There was some slight modification to the fence rails. the addd weight of the iron extensions tended to shift th...

Re: SawStop and fret slotting
Bob, i replaced one of the table extensions with a router table and lift, allowing me to eliminate the dedicated router table from my shop. the saw is pricey, but it will outlive me.

Re: SawStop and fret slotting
I have the professional. very well made saw, technology aside. I replaced an old Powermatic contractor saw. no comparison. I strongly recommend the hydraulic mobile base if you need to move the saw around, much better than the integrated base. There is a local dealer in my town and choose to buy fro...
