Neck-through headless Exploro-Bird
Here is my latest, a neck-through, headless (sort of) cross between a Gibson Explorer and a Firebird. I call it an Exploro-Bird. Lots of different woods on this one, I used cut offs and recycled furniture woods – walnut, mahogany, curly maple, plain maple, zebra wood, ebony, Indian rosewood, bloodwo...

Re: Jason's Pickup Winder
Jason: Be warned - I bought wire from the same manufacturer and found it to be defective. The coating was rough, causing it to snag multiple times on the felt I was using with a finger clamp to tension the wire. I tried using my fingers also to no avail. I eventually gave up and switched to the more...

Re: "Voodo djo" in elect guitar and bass circuitry
I made one with three P90s (Fralins), three on/off switches, three series/parallel switches, and two push-pull phase switches on master volume and tone controls. I was thinking better to have and not need, than to need and not have. While this may be true, it is way too many choices for live playing...

Re: Neck-Through Semi-Solid
Art, sorry for my tardy response. I have had no problems with feedback. The sound is certainly closer to a classic semi solid than a solid body. But I don't think it quite achieves the classic semi solid sound because the top and back plates are thicker than a traditional semi solid, and because of ...

Re: What tools do you use when contouring your guitar body?
I step rout and smooth with a surform rasp and sandpaper. Surform rasps are inexpensive at less than $5 and work great.

Re: Neck-Through Semi-Solid
Jason, I carved the top plates both inside and out as individual pieces. Then I glued up the maple top plates, mahogany rim and maple back plates, and finally glued up these hollow wings to the neck-through section. Because of the neck angle the neck section sits proud of the side wings, and I cut i...

Re: Neck-Through Semi-Solid
David, I steamed the headstock's walnut backplate over a tea kettle and clamped it to a form to dry. I bent the jack plate in the same manner. Regarding the wood selection, my intention was to make the two wings with mahogany sides and backs made from two hollowed out pieces, but when the pots would...

Re: Neck-Through Semi-Solid
Thanks Mark. So far I like the tuners, and they are are certainly convenient since there is no wrapping - just pull through, tighten, and tune. I have not used a tremolo before so maybe I overreacted to the bad reputation Bigsbys have regarding tuning stability. The finish does not match the Bigsby ...

Re: Charles Faulstich's Neck-Through Hippie Sandwich with P90s
Samuel: You are correct - the jig can only cut one pair of radii since the bearings are bolted in one location. I suppose you could mount them in slots so that any combination of radii could be cut.

Re: Charles Faulstich's Neck-Through Hippie Sandwich with P90s
Thanks for the compliments. Markku, I do not have any sound clips but will try to post some asap. Terry - I purchased the maple veneer, and it measures 0.025". By the way I pre-rounded the fret ends and pressed them in with great success. This was the first time I did not have to level the fret...

Here are some more photos. Pickup covers are flamed maple dyed black. Ebony inlay on back is to cover a hole drilling tear-out.
