Looking for good set of Macassar Ebony
What are some good sources for Macassar Ebony? I haven't bought any in a long time and the quality doesn't seem as good as it was 10 years ago.

Who makes custom radius blocks?
Does anyone know anyone who makes custom fingerboard radius sanding blocks? I'd like one that is 30" radius. I'd also like a fret press insert of the same radius for pressing the frets in with my StewMac fret press caul.

Re: Flat vs Domed top
Interesting topic. I just started to build a batch of "Flat-Top" classicals after some e-mail conversations with Paul Jacobson. He builds flat. I observed this while doing a repair to one of Paul's guitars and asked him about it. He said he never had one crack. The string tension pulls up ...

Re: 3 PIECE SOUNDBOARD?
They are in the area where the sides of the balsa lattice are reinforced with CF. As mentioned by Barry, in the middle of the photo. There are 4 of them.

Re: 3 PIECE SOUNDBOARD?
I use 5 piece cedar tops on my lattice guitars. The thickness is 1mm. The bridge glued onto the top, but is also pinned to the braces. I use 4 CF 2mm dia pins epoxied to the lattice bracing and drilled into the tie block. You can see the four pins in this photo. I use a slurry of milled carbon fiber...

Re: Santos Hernandez plans?
Here is a link to a video of a friend of mine who owns a 1915 Manuel Ramirez. He is doing some restoration. When he took the back off it looked like brand new inside. Quite possible that Santos made this but we'll never know for sure. All braces and pencil marks are original only the cleats for a cr...

Since a hollow grind is like what we use on our ice hockey skates, couldn't you use one of those pocket sharpeners for figure skates and hockey skates to sharpen this scraper? It's called a Skate Mate http://www.skatemate.com

Re: Walnut for a bridge?
Gilbert guitars use a walnut bridge. I have a 1998 Bill Gilbert with a walnut bridge. I think John and Bill have been using walnut for the past 20 years. John told me he liked it because the walnut they use has the stiffness of Brazilian rosewood but is lighter in weight. Sadley, John passed away in...
