Re: LP style neck tenon
Am getting ready to cut out the neck tenon in the body but a critical question is still nagging me. The S-M plans show to leave a slight protution of the neck past the fingerboard which is also flush at the bottom of the fingerboard. Another area on the plans show evidence that there would appear t...

Re: Bookmatched maple twist
Update: I came up with an idea that appears to have worked for me. I started to use a large and long hand plane but realized my inexperience and skills controlling the removal might have bitten me. I located a scrap lumberyard 1 x 10 and screwed the maple to it from underneath after evening out the ...

Re: Bookmatched maple twist
Thank you. I was thinking that was the sure safe way too. But there is a wealth of knowledge in these forums so I wanted to reach out first.

Bookmatched maple twist
Greetings. A rookie builder here that has been away for a while but am back. About 14 years ago. I cut a 1-3/4" thick maple board to be used on a LP style project and am just now getting back into it. However. the mating side that goes against the mahogany body is twisted and pulled away from a...

Re: ES 125TC Neck removal
I wiggled at it to see if it would free up dry however the fretboard gave way to the extension block at the top of the body instead of the block first. I do not know it this is dovetail or tenon but I've tried pulling I straight upwards and away in case it was a tenon joint. It seems to rock enough ...

Re: Painting headstock with inlay
Thank you Chuck. As smooth and dense as this material is, it has to be just as you said. This my first complete from scratch build but by having the neck nearly finished and the body profile ready to be routed, I can almost see light at the end of the tunnel.

Re: Painting headstock with inlay
I should have clarified...the headstock has a thin black stiff material on the face that sands very smooth and clean. (I forgot what it was called) I am just getting back into this project since 6 years ago but I could look it up. As I understand, it is very similar to what was used on the Gibson mo...

Painting headstock with inlay
Ok, I am going out on a limb and guessing this should be some kind of No-Brainer. But I have not found the approach/technique for finishing the face of a headstock that has fine inlay work without painting over it. I understand that I can fine sand the dried black paint gently from the inlay but thi...

Re: ES 125TC Neck removal
How refreshing to know that it is not poly. It is definitely hollow but I will check out the to see if there is a block. So you feel that I may be able to work it loose dry considering the fact that it is already pulled at the heel? I am all for that. I already scored the finish along the top of the...

ES 125TC Neck removal
Greetings, It's been a long time since I visited... :) I have a customer in need of resetting the neck on this. It is pulled away from the heel about 0.050" to 0.060" I am guessing. I cannot read the serial number enough to date it but it has the burgundy finish which as I understand is fa...

Re: Brazilian Teak (Dipteryx Odorata)
Thank you for your response. My interest in it was for a Strat style with a South Pacific nautical theme and I thought this might be a nice fit. However I do have reservations about the oil content and will be researching a bit more before I make a final call on it. A popular woodworking supplier wh...

Brazilian Teak (Dipteryx Odorata)
Greetings! I just reregistered since it’s been a while. I was hoping to get any feedback regarding using this wood for fretboard’s and if it may contain abrasives (fine sand particles) from its origins.
