Re: Edge treatments: arm bevels and belly cuts?

I don't like them. Electrics are so small anyway, I don't see the need for those contours. I like the feel of a telecaster with just slightly rounded edges. I always feel like a strat is too slippery and trying to escape. In fact, I have an '80s Squier Bullet that is strat shaped but with no belly c...

Re: Source needed for an acoustic electric jack

My friend's guitar had one of these jacks. He wanted to install a Fishman Matrix Infinity system. I took the guts out of the combo jack and used it as a mounting plate for the 1/4" jack for the Fishman. It looks the same from the outside, but the XLR doesn't do anything now. So, maybe you could...

Re: sticky Waverly tuners

I just put some on, too. They feel a little stiff, but also feel very accurate to me. They bring the strings to pitch nicely. Much better than the worn out Grovers they replaced.

Buzz on B String

Hi: I have Crafter GAE 8, and I am getting a sitar like buzz on the B String when played open. As background, I shaped and installed a new bone saddle on this guitar, and my friend made a new nut and did a set up for me. We are both hobbyists, but he is quite meticulous. The nut was much better than...

Re: Done wirning....a little hum.

Thanks David. The pickups are actually both humbuckers (single coil size). You can't tell that from my bad photo, but they are. I tested all the connections and found that the ground wire to the bridge was not a good connection. I also had some shielding that was not grounded. I think I have those t...

Re: Done wirning....a little hum.

I did not shield the pickup cavities. I did shield the control cavity. The inside of the pickup cavities is so rough, the copper tape doesn't stick very well (this is a stock body; I didn't route the cavities). I am realizing I should spend some time cleaning up the cavities and shielding more caref...

Done wirning....a little hum.

I wired this up last weekend. 84 Squier body, new GFS neck, new electronics, Seymour Duncan Little 59 and JB jr. There is a slight hum, which stops when I touch the strings. There is a string ground wire to the bridge, but I'm thinking this is a ground or shielding issue. There is the stock shieldin...

Re: Recent Telemaster Build

Very cool body shape. I like it.

My friend had an A-5 a long time ago. That had a weird, blocky body shape, right?

Yours looks great.

Re: 7 string with octave D

Thanks for the tip on Spider John Koerner. I checked him out on youtube. Great stuff. He seemed to be playing an Epiphone 12 with some kind of floating bridge. Also, I think I am going to try adding an octave D to my Washburn. It's an inexpensive guitar, so not much at stake. I think I will use a ba...

Re: 7 string with octave D

Thanks for the replies. It almost seems that a guitar could be retrofitted with an octave D. It would be right up the middle :) . On the two guitars I'm looking at now, there would be room on the headstock for another tuner. The bridge would be the issue.

7 string with octave D

So I remember Martin (I think) made a Roger McGuinn 7 string model with an additional G string an octave above. I play in the key of D a lot. Has anyone thought of or built a 7 string with an additional D string? I think it might sound cool where the D string is played open a lot. A little like a 12...

Great, thanks.

Mark, it's a new neck on an old body, so no holes to fill. But I got you, otherwise.

Aligning the neck for drilling

I could use some help on this one. I have a MIJ Squier bullet body to which I am going to attach a Guitar Fetish strat-style neck. This is a budget project :) The neck fits in the neck pocket pretty well, but not super tight. I'm looking for advice on how to align it prior to drilling the screw hole...

Re: Broken bridge mounting screws.

Thanks for the help guys. I should have thought of lubricating the threads. I'm going to plug the holes and move the bridge back 1/8" or so, which is where it should have been in the first place. I think I'm going to leave the broken screws in there. The repairs will not be visible, since they ...

Broken bridge mounting screws.

A screw up....I was mounting a Wilkinson 3 saddle compensated tele bridge, the one without the tele pickup slot, in my walnut tele-deluxe type thing, and I broke two!! of the mounting screws. I guess the pilot holes weren't big enough, and yeah the walnut is pretty hard, but man the screws seem weak...

Re: Tru Oil on maple

Thanks. I have been going for light coats, and doing one first thing in the morning and one at night. I will try buffing it down, then a few more light coats.

The back of the neck looks good, just the flat spots on the front and back of the headstock are streaky.
