Does anyone have experience with Aqua Coat pore filler? And any luck tinting it dark enough for use on rosewood to leave dark open pores?? Thanks

I've used it on several guitars under French polish. I like it. I have not tried to tint it. They have a number on their website for questions, you could contact them and ask.

Thanks Steven. I did talk to them and they thought I might have problems getting it to tint dark enough. That's why I was hoping to get some experienced users here. I ordered some so I'll be experimenting.

Yes, on Honduran rosewood. I just used the clear version and it did look good, but, since the Honduran is pretty light anyway, I think it would have looked better if it was tinted really dark as you are looking for.

I have used it on mahogany but not rosewood yet. I think you should be able to tint it dark enough for rosewood if you use the right tints. I use UTCs on fillers, which are universal tints colors from paint stores. For rosewood I usually add dark brown and just a bit of black. I think Aqua Coat will get sufficiently dark because it is a clear base so any tint you add is not diluted.

About aqua coat, I tried some time ago. I got bad results, so I decided not to use it anymore. But the I read positive reviews and therefore I thought it was my fault. So I decided to give it a try again. Bad results. I hated it. So I swore not to use it any more. But then I read enthusiastic reviews again. So I thought again it was my fault. I gave it another try. Terrible results. This story went on and on for some times. Now I gave up. This time for good. I swear I will not waste some more time with aqua coat grain filler. But it might very well be my fault of course.

I've had the same experience with it as Enrico. Multiple tries with multiple coats enough to use up the whole container. No go. I'll stick with epoxy. That has worked for me.

Yes I agree. Despite being so tough to sand, in terms of end results epoxy is number one. In my opinion of course
