hurdy gurdy keyboard
hurdy gurdy keyboard
hello and thanks for adding me to the forum. I have a bit of experience in general woodworking and more specifically, solid body electric guitars, but have been 'consigned' by a grandson to try to build a hurdy gurdy. I have done quite a bit of research and seem to have reached somewhat of a comfor level to go forth, however clueless on how to layout the keyboard. I understand the premise of basing in on a piano keyboard, but specifically i'm needing to know exact measurements and layout for punching holes for keys in proper place. anyone out there that can put me on a template or accurate drawing, i'd certainly appreciate it...thanks.

Re: hurdy gurdy keyboard
Have you run across this site? https://gurdyworld.com/hurdy-gurdy-resources/plans/ They claim to have free CAD files for a number of historical instruments. I built one from the Wilfried Ulrich drawings (available from GAL for not much money). I'm told the book "La vielle à roue – Découvrir, comprendre, fabriquer (French)" is quite good but impossible to find (long out of print). Whatever you build, do add buttons for a strap to help hold in in place while playing. And the wheel axle can't have any play in it.
Re: hurdy gurdy keyboard
i think that was one of my many searches. i'll revisit in case i missed something...thanks.

I just ordered the same plans you used. have also been studying your build thread here on the forum. you have been a huge help. thanks.
