Hi
I'm wanting to rebuild a pickup on an old Supro lap steel - it's the string through type. I have one good bobbin and one empty bobbin. Does anyone out there know what guage wire to use and how many turns please?
Thanks, Andrew

Re: Supro string through pickup rebuild question
If good bobbin verses empty means you have one good pick, then you can you measure the wire gauge with a micrometer or caliper. Once you have that, you can get the resistance per meter. Measuring the resistance of the good one, you can now get an estimate of the length of wire used. From the good you can work out the minimum length per turn and maximum length per turn from the geometry. Use the average to get the number of turns. If you have a winder where you can measure length wire length rather than turns you could wind based on that but calculating turns is going to be easier and will get you close enough. I have no idea if it was scatter wound or not.
