Martin bass guitar

If you have a string instrument of any kind that needs fixing, a mistake you made in building a new instrument that you need to "disappear," or a question about the ethics of altering an older instrument, ask here. Please note that it will be much easier for us to help you decide on the best repair method if you post some pictures of the problem.

Martin bass guitar

Post by Matt Atkinson »

Hi all, I am looking to repair and set up Martin bass guitar for a friend. I haven't checked the label yet but likely 70's vintage. It is definitely in need of a neck reset and likely a bridge doctor. I have done both jobs on a 70's D35 before. I haven't checked the truss rod yet to see if it works but will do so.
Does anyone know what the range of string height should be at set up? Relief? Other things I should look at? Bridge plate, whether or not the saddle is in the right location, etc.? Gathering info. Thanks,
Michael Lewis

You might call Customer Service Dept. at the Martin factory and ask where you might find such specs. That is what I would have had to do when I was a service center. I never came across one of these so I have no notes about them. You will need the serial number as well as the mode number at hand when you call.
