Pearl Inlay stuff

Post by Greg Steil »

Where is the best/cheapest source of Pearl dots(specifically) and other pearl/abalone stuff? I am aware of DePaule, and Duke of Pearl. Thanks

Check EBay - I've had good luck there.

I like Rescue Pearl as well although sometimes the dots are .060 and sometimes they are .050. Just be sure to mark each bag as such if it's important to you.

Be wary of Abalone dots from China.
The ones I received were a thin layer of Abalone glued to shell.
The Abalone was easy to sand away, leaving only pearl visible.
Ever-body was kung fu fight-in,
Them kids was fast as light-nin.

I bought 20 paua abalone dots (1/4-inch) from Rescue Pearl a couple weeks ago.... I was very surprised to see that they were real deep blues and greens on one side, but the back side was equally as nice, and were light pink with shades of green.... So I could actually use either side, which I thought was really unusual. Shame I don't have the guts to drill out the existing dots and replace them <grin>.

That is pretty standard for real shell. Usually the green side is used but I sometimes use the lighter side as it is more reflective.
