Fancy figured woods...

Post by Louie Atienza »

Thought it would be cool to start a thread with some nice woods you may have collected along the way, waiting for that special project.

I have to get the pics from my phone the 'hard' way but will get some pics up in a bit...

I've posted this before on the old forum, but wanted to test pics here. It's Tasmanian Blackwood.

That black wood is beautiful any idea what part of the state it'came from?
I run a sawmill on the north west and cut mainly black wood.
Have some pics of a myrtle burl I cut a couple of months ago that I will post when I can

I have been dying to build with this cocobolo for years. It will need to be a 4-piece back, but with this much ink, it is easy to hide the joint.
I got it at the local Rockler - three planks of the most pathetic looking grungy old oxidized wood you ever saw. Literally looked like creosote soaked railroad ties. I'd seen them in there for at least a year and passed them over - like everyone else - until I decided to take a closer look and scraped a small corner clean.

Hey Judd, it sure does, but I can assure you it is cocobolo. The smell and the color (in person) is unmistakable.
