Zithers with 4+ bridges.

If it's not a guitar or a bass guitar discussion, and it's got strings, put it here.

Zithers with 4+ bridges.

Post by Dylan Barry »

Is anyone aware of any zither instruments that exist that have four or more bridges? I can only seem to find info about three bridged lutes, and the koto/ghuzeng. Is there something I am missing here? More bridges results in more polyphony with less strings, so it seems like such a thing wouldn't be hard to find info (and instruments) on.

Some hammered dulcimers (which are zithers) and cimbaloms have additional bridges to extend their range. As different notes share strings and tuners things become more problematic.
