Mandolin top plate to thin

If it's not a guitar or a bass guitar discussion, and it's got strings, put it here.

Mandolin top plate to thin

Postby William Stapleton » Wed Jan 02, 2019 11:00 pm

I have gotten to aggressive carving out my f-5 style top plate- 3.2 at the center 1.8 at the dip-could it possibly still be used? Maybe heavier tone bars or a different type of bracing? Maybe a x brace? Coupled with light gauge strings? I would not mind making it be a experimental model- or should I just hang it on the wall as a reminder of what not to do? Any suggestions?
