Finish ideas

Post by Chad Olson »

You guys have any input on a finish that would go well with a padauk fretboard? I was originally thinking an iced tea or honey burst would look good but I'm starting to think all blonde would be the way to go.

Do you have enough to do tests on each finish? Say an inch and a quarter area each finish.
If not could you use the under side, just sand it off prior to glueing it down.
I have a lot of experience on how "not" to do things.

Chad,
your padauk will darken considerably over time and may become nearly black as it oxidizes so you might want to keep that possibility in mind for your color scheme.

I did keep the scraps of the wood I used for the top & I've been experimenting... I'm almost thinking a nice brandy wine color might work out the best.

Here's a couple shots of where I'm at with this.
