Well, now I have to buy one of those scrapers. Darn. That really looks good. I'd say that if you are planning on a multicolored veneer, rounding it over will look good but if it's a single colored veneer, slightly rounding it might be okay. I think rounding it too much if only one color will make it look like a patch, not a design feature whereas using multi-color and routing will make the laminations really pop.

if it is a thicker veneer then you may be able to round it over a bit more.

finally got it back today, a week after the guy said he'd get it done but he was having a crisis so I understand(except he wouldn't take my advice on why he was having the crisis in the first place but that's another story! (certainly something well within my wheelhouse!)) Okay so now that we're back out of the double paranthetical's here's the pic I've got today.



Really happy with how it turned out, followed the contour nicely and should be a good, sharp edge when I sand back down to sapele. I'm glad he did it this way, laying it all the way over onto the adjacent wood as I was scratching my head about how I was going to trim off the excess from the edge. I should have this sanded off in the next couple days and it should leave the corners nice and crisp! Also snooped around his shop a little bit and chatted him up about some of his beautiful veneer scraps which he's offered to sell to me cheap and stitch them together in gorgeous book matches, so I guess it's time I start looking into a design for a drop top! More pics once I actually sand it back...

So here's a look at it all sanded up with a little SoCal on it to show the grain. Needless to say I'm pretty happy with the result. Sometimes mistakes can be a good thing!

I think it looks great looks like that's what you intended in the first place instead of a repair.
