Goby has ludicrous walnut. Used to drive by their yard on my commute. Ginormous 6 foot diameter trees sliced and stickered whole.

I've always used a book matched construction with curly maple necks. It's usually fairly easy to find 5/4 or thicker flat cut curly maple planks that you can rip down the middle and join to make a neck. Since the grain in the two halves matches ant tendency of the neck to bend one way on one side will be balanced by the opposite tendency o the other side. Just remember to glue them up so that the ring lines on the end look like ))))|((((, not ((((|)))). Differential shrinkage will tend to peel the glue line apart if you join them the wrong way. Naturally you actually have vertical grain showing on the fingerboard gluing surface: ASCII art is so limited...
