Ground wire issue

Post by Andrew McSpadden »

I am making some single coil pickups and I want to check my logic. I am using a 3 conductor cable (start, finish, bare wire ground to shielding in the cable). Do I need to connect the bare wire at BOTH ends (at the pickup and at the ground in the control cavity) to make the shielding effective? My logic tells me I just need to do it in the control cavity but I just want to make sure.

Thanks!

Depends. If you have anything on the pickup to ground to (like a base plate or a metallic cover) then I would connect these to ground too.

Thanks Barry! I would use a strat PU for example, no base plate. I just wanted to double check my instinct that the shielding would be effective.
