Re: Patrick DeGreve's travel guitar
How about some more details on the binding channel jig. I'm in need of something similar.

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp
You could try some liquid drano or something like that as well. If you use the foaming stuff, that may create some depth to the finish.

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp
Well... Corroded aluminum looks like....Aluminum I think instead of attempting to get a corroded look, you'll have to just go for an etched look, or a distressed look. You can use a salt/vinegar slurry and you'll get a matt white residue. You could also use gun aluminum blue (I'm not sure how easy t...

Re: Greg Robinson's mini tube amp
For a finish Idea, my brother-in-law makes sculptures with all sorts of material including metals, wood, stone...anyways...he uses various acids to oxidize metals in different ways then just hits it with a clear-coat sealer once he gets the looks he was going for. I think for this type of build, som...

Re: Question Regarding The 3 Light Bulb Style Side Bending Machine
I have a 300 watt halogen in my pipe bender. It's the mini-cab style. I had to order a ceramic base for it, but it works reasonably well. I imagine that these lights would work in a fox-style bender as well, and I don't think halogens are going away anytime soon either.

Re: Guitars and Toddlers
I have most of my guitars in cases at home, but there's something very refreshing and motivating about seeing a kid's enthusiasm while plucking strings. So the guitar that I always have out is one that I inherited when room mate didn't have enough room to move it across country with him, so he gave ...

Re: pickup on nylon archtop
I don't know how relevant this is exactly, but a very good friend of mine, and probably the best known bass player in the region (mountain west United States) had similar issues with K&K pickups. He blogged about it not too long ago: http://basstony.wordpress.com/2012/06/27/fishman-full-circle/ ...

It's interesting how Warwick*ish it looks considering you started with a Jazz Bass Template. Regardless, cute little bass. It's definitely one that would lure me in if it were on a store wall. Do you have a sound clip?

Every single piece that I have seen has been a home run Murray! You have a superb knack for design...Any chance you could post sound clips to see if they sound as sweat as they look?

That appears to be a unique neck contour. Does it flatten out near the higher frets? If so, what are the factors driving that design?

And apparently, I wasn't the first to imagine it, and it is ugly:

There is also this: http://guitar-pickups.biz/hp135333/Single-Coil-S-6-Vintage-Custom-adjustable.htm?ITServ=CY55304d74X13b04ce035cX7f07 I have thought it possible (albeit awfully ugly), that one could build pickups that slide on a rail system, or even take it a step further and build individual pick...

Re: Pickup Position Placement
That is a fantastic idea. Perhaps a little cumbersome to test, but a great idea non-the-less.David King wrote:It's quite easy to mount the pickups temporarily upside down on blocks over the strings and move them around to see where they might work best.

6 pickups! Wouldn't the additional magnets start to dampen the sting vibration?

Re: possible mods/hot rodding my go-to axe
Not a whole lot of people are fans of the phase option. I'm surprised. It seems like that's fairly common amongst greats like Peter Green, Brian May, and Mark Knopfler. BTW, I'm talking both full pickups out of phase, not a single humbucker split and out of phase.

Re: possible mods/hot rodding my go-to axe
I've been reading up on quite a few mods, and have to say that there are a ton that I have no interest in. My main frustration has been, when I'm playing in my room and laying down tracks, and have been able to get nearly all the sounds I want from this guitar, but when I'm onstage, I have always co...

Re: possible mods/hot rodding my go-to axe
Great info Joshua! Thanks. One of the bits of information that I have run across is that the series parallel mod for humbuckers is really hit or miss based on the output. If the humbuckers are higher output, this mod turns to mud. In your experience, do you know approximately where the threshold for...
