I never looked for shell inlays on amazon; thanks for the heads-up!
AliExpress is a great source for smalls and odd ball stuff at incredible prices. All Chinese and takes forever(2 to 3 months!) to arrive, but there are things available there that you'll not find anywhere else.

Re: Who buys tools and supplies from Amazon?
Living in the Canadian sub-arctic, I live off of Amazon.ca..... But, I don't buy pre-made wood instrument parts, so can't help there, and I don't buy off-brand tools. As Michael Lewis suggested once, a good tool only hurts once(when you have to pay for it). A poorly made tool hurts every time you us...

Re: 5 tones on a Tele? Not sure if this is a dumb question
Isn't the "bridge with capacitance" attainable simply with the tone control instead of hard-wired?
I'm missing something here...

Re: 5 tones on a Tele? Not sure if this is a dumb question
What you want is a 4 way switch(bridge/bridge-neck/neck/bridge-neck in series).
BTW, an Esquire has just a bridge pickup, not a neck pickup...

Re: neck question - truss rod or no?
How do you adjust relief without a trussrod
You don't have to if it's built correctly and is stiff enough. In the rare event that it must be adjusted, see Alan's post....

Re: neck question - truss rod or no?
Martin has admitted that they only went to adjustable rods because of consumer demand. They had fewer warranty issues with solid, non-adjustable necks. I offer mine either way. All of my personal guitars and mandolins are solid(steel tube), non-adjustable. Heck, my telecaster knock-off has a one-pie...

Re: Burns Gear-O-Matic Truss Rod
Well done..!
I've been using Jescar wire(mostly SS but some EVO) for all my new builds since around 2004 or 2005. Great stuff..! For repairs, I'll still turn to various SM wire to match the original size, or for the wider tang.

Re: Small metal lathe recommendations?
Is space the reason you want to go tiny? If you have the space for it, keep looking, and putting bugs in people's ears that you're looking for a lathe. I did that for a while and scored a Harrison M250 for less than the cost of two fill-ups in my truck.. :) A mid-size lathe can do everything a small...

What kind of fretwire are you using that requires such large slots, or filling-off the barbs???

Re: Proulx side bender?
My original bender used light bulbs for heat, and yes, it had steel bars. Newer ones use wood blocks or 3/4" dowels, and the newest one is a solid sandwich of plywood... The waist cauls also vary, from plywood pieces, shaped solid wood, and even a couple make use of PVC and/or ABS pipe sections...

Re: Proulx side bender?
All "my bender" is, is a solid buck of the side's profile. On this I place the silicone blanket(same one purchased from LMI some 17 years ago..!). A long clamp of some sort to hold the ends of the ribs, and one F clamp for the waist. A .022" stainless steel slat goes over the rib. Pre...

Re: Jim McConkey's Flood Mandolin Twins
If you do it that way you'll have the saddle cranked up way high... Remember to account for the fret height also. Shims taped to the fretboard will suffice. Better yet, install the frets. Now lay your straight edge on it and set the neck angle to roughly 1/32" to 1/16" below the saddle. Th...

It was early '99 when I found this forum. I was hooked from the get-go!
Can't begin the describe how much I've learned from others, and loved sharing what knowledge I could.
Best of all, some real, deep and lasting friendships were formed here. Kudos!!! Thanks Deb, for the vision...!
