Late 60's Goya finish question

Hello I have an old Goya nylon string that the finish is doing that orange peel thing. It's only on the neck and head stock. What type of finish is this likely to be(I think nitro) and is there a fix? I'm only familiar working with lacquer and urathane. The owner commented that the guitar had seen a...

Just want to add this
I never have what I need for any plumbing project and I found this at a thrift store for $6. Heats to 140deg in 6-7 min.

Re: 1972 Hofner adjustable neck

Ok, that was easy. I think it's been astablished this is a bad neck joint, but short of adding shims I am wondering about the logic of such a easily disassembled joint. It's almost a colapsable guitar. I didn't think carry on luggage was that big of a concern in the 70's. I think I'm going to do som...

Very cool David, I'm thinking about entering a lap steel my self. So they grow masonite and acrylic near you?(wink)
And did any one else notice that curly maple in you first pic?

1972 Hofner adjustable neck

I have an old Hofner flat top in the shop and am trying to understand the adjustable neck. Any help would be great. It's just a friend's old beater but I would like to make it playable.

Thanks

Re: 1940's Gibson j35 bridge plate

Thank you all for the replies
I am going to get the plate saver tool. I have another guitar(low value) that I was going to replace the plate but can use to test. I haven't pulled the plate on such a vintage instrument so i want to do the right thing.
Thanks

Re: The next MIMF challenge- ideas anyone?

I like the "local wood" idea. What ever the challenge I think it's fun and creates a lot of activity on the forum.
Just for fun how about "recreate you're very first instrument" challenge. Yes, hard to judge, but a lot of plywood and interesting instruments.

Re: 1940's Gibson j35 bridge plate

Thanks Arnt I had checked on the value of the guitar and was suprised. But since she has no money to invest in the instrument I was looking for the least invasive/most reversable fix. I'm not sure about the bridge bolts. Most of the pictures I found have them, but not all. Also she said the bridge &...

Re: 1940's Gibson j35 bridge plate

Thanks for the replies. I know a plate repair/replace would be the best fix. I was hoping to offer her an inexpensive alternative.

Thanks

Very nice. Love the use of osage. I think it is an under used timber.

1940's Gibson j35 bridge plate

I've had this very lovely lady bring me this Gibson she has owned since she was 12(the guitar was 10 when she got it) complaining about a lose of tone and requesting a truss rod adjustment. I knew that was not the issue and agreed to do it and change the strings at a very very minimal fee. The bridg...

Re: Three "and Bass Guitars" areas confusion

I guess I'm on the fence about this one. While guitars and basses have their own unique characters, I would worry about input being missed becouse a guitar builder never looks at the bass section or vice versa.
Oh and also-
Thanks Charlie and Thank you Deb for so many years.
