Re: Using the Yonico FB radius bits
Steve- That's a great detailed explanation. You lost me in the translation, but I assume it works for you. I saw mention of these bits a few years ago on an Aussie forum. I bought a couple of radius ones, but they did not work in my attempts. Even though I ran them on a fence, attached to a straight...

Re: A neck shaping jig
This is really interesting to see how similar Steve's jig is to mine. Almost like we built then together. Mine has a T-Track in the center to adjust the hold downs.

Bryan- Great combination of otherwise uncommon materials. I compliment you as much for the nice guitar project as for your generosity and ethical choice in helping those in need. Very special. Stay safe!-Bob

Re: Tenor ukulele from reclaimed lumber
Here is another example of a uke from reclaimed wood. Redwood top, back, and sides from a redwood deck on an oceanside house that was overrun with lava last year. Most of the the rest of the deck I made into a new front door for my house and garden bed planter boxes

Ukulele (or guitar) Scarf Joints
First of all, thanks to Charlie and the MIMF for adding an ukulele section to the board index. Worth a try. Hopefully we'll get interest.I make a few guitars, but mostly ukes. These days I have the time to improve some of my jigs. Here is one I re-made in the last few days for cutting headstock scar...

Re: Board index additions
Charlie- I see your point about the index growing if you had to give each instrument equal time. From the outside looking in I don't think about issues like that, but I clearly see your point. The MIMF looks like it is doing great as is. Maybe good things are best left alone. Thanks for your work.-A...

Re: Board index additions
Charlie- Thanks. I guess deciding what , where, or if to do a uke group depends on the philosophy of the MIMF. You could tuck it away in the "Builder's Groups" and minimize input or start an actual group in the Board Index and maybe get more input than you want. Like I said before, this ma...

Re: Board index additions
I suppose silence is the answer to my question. In these times that would be expected. No one needs extra work right now. Everyone take care, be safe, and enjoy your building.-Bob

Board index additions
Some years ago, after meeting Mark Swanson and Amy Hopkins, I participated in the MIMF a fair amount. Over the years my guitar building became more ukulele building and I drifted off to ukulele oriented groups. The main ukulele group seems to be the Ukulele Underground, and it is undergoing some stre...

Renaissance Wax
I've used Renaissance Wax for many years in my work.A couple of coats of shellac and a coat of Renaissance wax is standard practice before gluing on a bridge. Sometime I like to put a little more on the bridge after gluing. I've always been careful to keep it off a lacquer finish, especially a new o...

Re: Lap steel string spacing
Thanks for the replies. That 1.3 is about what I use on my 6's, but wondered if the 8's are a bit tighter or not.

Lap steel string spacing
I don't see a place to put this question, so here it is. I've made a lot of 6 string lap steels and now want to try some 8's. Looking for nut and saddle string spacing info. For either parallel or tapered style. Thanks, Bob

Re: Pickguard adhesive
I've used that adhesive for many years. It is available on Amazon in lots of sizes. Extremely useful around the shop wherever a thin strong adhesive is needed. I use it a lot for holding inlay pieces and for applying labels to instruments. It never lets go, at least not in the 35+ years I've used it.

Peter-Thanks! I think I'll be in about the same predicament with 8 strings, but it looks worth a try. Enjoy your music.--Bob

8 string lap steel string spacing
I make some 6 string lap steels and want to try an 8. Lots of different string spacings on these creatures. If you have one, would appreciate knowing the outside string spacing at the nut and bridge. Some converge at the nut and some are parallel. If you have an opinion on that, let me know too. Tha...
