Guess this wood

Guess what this dulcimer is made from. Hint, it's domestic, one doesn't have to buy tropical woods to get this quality. https://scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtp1/v/t1.0-9/11891133_10203697577034717_3113073684314352563_n.jpg?oh=226cae39bd44119c2d88ca9ca543d5d8&oe=567E230B https://scontent...

Re: Who cuts and cures their own wood?

Re: Walnut soundboard?

I've built a walnut guitar with a butternut top and a cherry guitar with a silver maple top. Both sounded very nice. The walnut guitar can be viewed here. http://wildmeadowdulcimers.blogspot.com ... uitar.html

Re: Cupped Back

If the cup is a result of flat sawn lumber, the bracing will fix it with no problem. If its with the grain, I'd be calling the supplier.

Finishing an all sassafras dulcimer right now. Second one I've made from this wood. Nice to work with, smells great. FoxFire iii has good instructions for a traditionally built one, if I remember right, Jean Ritchie's Dulcimer People has instructions.
