Re: bolt on neck question

A side soundhole is not only a feature, it makes bolting necks on that much easier.

I've had a couple of TKL's as you describe for about 10 years now. No complaints.

Re: Question about bandsaw blade

Definitely nice to have different blades for tight cuts as opposed to resawing (i.e. 1/4" for tight cuts and 1/2" OR 3/4" for resawing). Having said that, I'm often a little lazy when it comes to changing blades. A 3/8" Timberwolf, 4 TPI works for almost anything I need to do, in...

Re: Any successful method of jointing backs and tops without power jointer or planes?

I believe some people are confusing flat top plate jointing methods with those required for archtop wedges at ~1 1/4' thick "each". Some are translatable and some aren't.

Re: supplier of big lef maple for archtops

Don Barnes is a salt of the Earth guy. Local to me in Alberta but shipping is realistic. Shops for and buys his own logs in British Columbia. Cuts everything himself on his homebuilt, wood mizer style saw. Very reasonable prices. http://www.grandpasworkshop.com/

Re: K&K Pure Mini on an archtop?

I installed a Pure Western mini on an oval hole archtop that I built. I glued the piezos in place under the bridge the same as if it were a pin bridge. I didn't use the archtop K & K as this one doesn't have F holes. I am very happy with the sound.

Re: type of bracing used with oval hole archtops

I made and braced one the same as Dave has shown (although with considerably less skill :) It is a great sounding guitar and has been my main player for a few years. I used a K & K pickup on it as well and really like it. I also added an upper bout soundport. I bound the soundhole but wouldn't t...

Re: how to secure a ebony pickguard

I do much the same as Patrick but use two 1 1/4" drywall screws as per Benedetto. Make sure you pre-drill the holes. The black screws match the ebony too.

Is Louis not working on the neck? I read back through and it seems he began working on one? Jacob Louis dropped off the radar some time back. I know he has had some family issues. I had offered a fingerboard sometime back and that offer still stands. If it isn't required, then I'll offer to spring ...

I built two to Bill Moll's dimensions. They sound great but are about as big a guitar as you'd want to play before you considered standing them up.

I use one of the machinist reference slabs that I got from Busy Bee a few years ago for around $30. It weighs about 70 lbs so comes in handy for the odd clamping or ballast use.

Re: Excavating Inlay Cavities With Small Sharp Hand Tools

I'd add that if it's after the fact, that you don't need a perfectly uniform depth cavity, especially if using epoxy. It has been posted in the past that a toothpick glued to the inlay with a dab of wood glue will suspend the inlay flush with the cavity while the epoxy or thick CA dries. So, if usin...
