Re: violin tuner peg cutter plans?

Most homemade and commercial rigs I've seen have a tapered hole with an adjustable blade, along the lines of most handheld pencil sharpeners. Create a tapered hole in a block of wood with a tapered reamer, plane/cut off the top of the block, and mount the blade parallel to the taper so that it slowl...

Re: Chambered Claro Walnut 6 string

Very nice - especially with the addition of the wings and new matching rings. The wings were a brilliant solution.

Re: Shopmade router jack

Nope, if I understand correctly it is indeed a jack. Slip this gizmo between the bottom of the router and the cabinet below, release the router's lock, and turn the screw... up/down she goes! Just like my trusty old scissor jack.

Repair near Lebanon NJ?

I have an old friend in Lebanon NJ who bought a Mexican Fender Strat about three years ago. He's played the bass since the early 80's, and now that he's getting good on those six tiny strings it's become clear that that pesky buzzing sound isn't due to driver error - it's a fret that wasn't fully se...

Re: Designs for an MIMF headstock logo?

+1 on Thomas' comment. Given the variety of types and styles of instruments that the Official MIMF Logo might grace in the future, I'd say that Dan's #2 is the best bet (not that I get a vote, but if I did...)

Re: a request for the Magnatone Leilani owners

Try a Google image searh for "1950 Magnatone Leilani". The first result is a nice flat front on shot, just ripe for tracing and scaling up.

Yes, it's a lame solution - mightily so. But sometimes that's what floats the boat.

Re: Designs for an MIMF headstock logo?

I'm certainly guilty as charged re: the (in)feasibilty of inlaying my earlier posts with wood or shell. I'm not a huge fan of CNC'ing inlays, but I think that would have to be the method of choice. Rodger's "Here's another idea..." post has really grown on me, especially its stealthiness. ...

Not having the strings run out to the F was a carryover from this earlier attempt:

That's a beauty. Check this out (about 50+ seconds into the video): Weltmeister acordion factory - softened celluloid application, then scraping and buffing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYsSifiDapo&NR=1

Re: Koa shopping on the Big Island of Hawaii?

Thanks Mark - I got in touch with Bob. Nice guy. I was originally thinking I'd pick up a bit of koa, but after looking at the Pegasus web site I fell for spalted mango. Bob's shop is way out in the sticks so stopping by wasn't really in the cards (but if anyone is in the market, check out his web si...
