Re: The "Try something different" challenge
Hi Charlie; It's an interesting idea. I don't know what I would try yet. But I would be in. I have always had a great time with our challenges, and have learned quite a bit from watching what other members build.

Re: Baritone guitar
Hi Dave: I built an 8 string baritone about 18 months ago baised in the Taylor GT8 Baritone. At that time there was a discussion on this forum about baritone guitars, but no plans available. I really liked the concept of the 8 string baritone, and called Taylor guitars and asked a few questions. I d...

Brace repair question on Wilson and Sons classical
I bought this guitar in 1966 with paper route money I saved for three months. It was a cheap guitar, but it had great tone, and I love it. I am surprised it is in one piece considering what I put it through. I was a Scout Master for our Boy Scout Troop, and I took it on camping trips for 40 years. I...

Re: First flat top
Very nice job, Jeff. The finish looks great from the photos! I like the maple binding on the fretboard, and the pyramid bridge. The OM is one of my favorite guitars, and yours is very classy. The tone will continue to improve as you play it in. Enjoy it.

Re: Wake me up, please. What are you working on?
I just finished a new Jumbo. It is a modified J200, with a flattened lower bout. Almost like a very large OM. I used ambrosia maple for the back and sides, (with a cocobolo center panel),and some nice bearclaw sitka spruce I got from Alaska Specialty Woods. It has bloodwood bindings, and a Fishman p...

Re: Novice: How To Go About Designing A Baritine Acoustic For First Ever Build
I am not sure I would start by designing my first guitar, because of the reasons Doug expressed. You do want to follow a good set of plans. However, if you really want to build a baritone, I have a thought. About two years ago there was a discussion here about baritones, and I decided I would build ...

Re: L-00 build, ideas, pifalls?
I made a L-00 about two years ago from the GAL plans. They are very good plans, and it came out very nice. I used Mahogany and Engleman, I love it. I agree with Mark, I would not make it deeper. I think part of the character of the "blues" tone of the L-00 would be lost if you deepen the b...

Hi Warren: The center block is maple. And yes, it is great to have a boss that supports you, and one that you respect. Harvey always wanted us to be creative, and made it easy to do our best work. He will be missed!

Re: Patrick DeGreve's travel guitar
I am going to take these guitars to work next week, and see what everybody thinks. I think I will leave them at work hanging in my closet, so we can play them at lunch. I am very happy with them, (I didn't expect much from the pine soundboards), but they both have a nice tone. They both lack the bas...

I am calling both of these done. I finishesd them last weekend, and have been playing them in this week. I am very happy I joined the challenge (as always). I enjoyed watching the other builds, and as always learned some new tricks. I love the Barncaster, and the two bases. very good work. Below is ...

New dulcimer for my boss
A few years ago I built a mountain dulcimer for the acoustic challenge on this forum. My boss saw it and told me he always wanted to learn to play the dulcimer. I found out about 6 weeks ago that he was retiring this month, so I started to build him a teardrop dulcimer. I gave it to him today and he...

Re: Patrick DeGreve's travel guitar
And here is a shot of the oak steel string, from the front. Now I have to wait another week, to sand and buff them, install and dress the frets, install the tuners, and set them up. I think I am going to make the deadline.
