Re: Fine dust respirator by repurposing a CPAP machine
Barry- This is a whole different animal than what you are used to seeing. If the flow coming into the mask is greater than the inspiratory demand the result in this situation is no room air contaminants, sticks, stones and small furry animals going into the user's lungs. I would go one step further ...

Re: How can I enhance walnut figure contrast?
This is my schedule on Walnut: After sanding up to 150 grit fill the grain with a dark filler. Sand up 320, reapply filler and sand until everything is level. Dye the whole surface with a bright yellow or orange dye. This will neutralize the sapwood and pops the grain later in the process. I use the...

Re: Fine dust respirator by repurposing a CPAP machine
So the face tent is open at the top around the nose? If so, then it will not keep particulates out very well. Take a look at the hood provided for a PAPR (powered air purifying respirator). It has openings to allow the excess air to vent out, but is restrictive enough to keep contaminates from movi...

Re: Fine dust respirator by repurposing a CPAP machine
Hi Bob, I have been a Respiratory Therapist for 38 years, worked for Fisher & Paykel (NZ maker of CPAP equipment) for 14 years and wear a nasal mask connected to a CPAP machine every night. In the shop I wear a 3M 6000 half mask w/P100 filters when making dust with machines and use 2, 20" b...

Re: Which Buffing Machine, or Method??
This won't help the OP as it appears he has decided, but for future readers, Go-Cart axles work great as buffing arbors. They are machined and threaded on both ends and have a keyway running down the middle to lock in a pulley.

You can safely scrape all but ~.005" of the CA level with a razor blade as detailed by Frank Ford here: http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luthier ... rape1.html

Re: Top and back radius
Like Bob, I use radius dishes, top is 25" and back is 18". They were made like this but bigger: http://forum.ukuleleunderground.com/showthread.php?30203-How-to-make-a-Radius-Dish and covered it with 80 grit sandpaper. The braces are contoured in the dish and get glued to the plates with Go...

Re: Can I make a new top look old?
This video has good instruction about using Oxalic Acid (Barkeeper's Friend scrubbing powder is a cheap option) to bleach some cracks and pick wear and Potassium Permanganate to age replacement Spruce braces on a 100+ year old guitar top. Much more authentic than using stain and dye. http://www.yout...
