Re: The Pixelele

This has had me chuckling for going on three days now - what a hoot. Interestingly, to my eyes the pic of it sitting on that decidedly non-Minecraft blanket somehow manages to make it appear even more eight-bit. Absolutely brilliant!... although I secretly long for it to have square fret markers and...

Re: Taller Humbucker Bobbins

How about this - start with two "standard" height humbucker bobbins, cut/sand one plate off of each, reduce the height of the shafts such that they add up to the desired height when stacked, and then CA or epoxy glue the shafts together? You could use dowels to align the two halves for glu...

How about using through-bolts instead of screws, with a single drilled and tapped backing/grounding plate hidden in a cavity from the rear?

That's great stuff. I especially liked the original's bound-up fellow on the headstock - a marvelous visual pun from so, so long ago.

Re: Fender neck pockets - rectangular or tapered?

“Fender Manufacturing” video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bzm7OfuNBcQ About three seconds in there’s a shot of a neck having the full length of one of its sides run along a stationary belt sander. Mr Leo aimed to make his production line run quickly and smoothly... I wonder if it was a judgement c...

Following up on the chainsaw file idea - check out chain saw files with “file guides”. Maybe make a wood sled to hold your workpiece, and a mating bottom plate with the file and guide secured in...along the lines of a tablesaw and a crosscut sled, but your file takes the place of the saw blade and y...

Re: Adding a Metalworking Lathe into Sawdust-Ville

Thank you both. Barry: I’ve been putting off unpacking and cleaning the lathe as I’m in the middle of a couple of other house projects that I’ll never get around to finishing if I don’t get them out of the way first. Was planning on oiling after cleaning, but your cautioning about over-oiling has me...

Adding a Metalworking Lathe into Sawdust-Ville

Paul M's recent measuring wheel post led me to his trove of videos, among which was a visual tour of his shop space (thank you Paul). I was surprised to see a metalworking lathe sitting immediately next to benchtop drill press that is presumably used for wood a good portion of the time. I'm about to...

... are you an “I meticulously clean and carefully cover the grill after every use and its handles will rarely, if ever, be exposed to the weather” kind of person, or the “a rusty, crusty, and weathered grille makes the food taste more authentic” sort?

Hello Gilbert. Here's a quick diagrammatic sketch using an old neck side view I had drawn up long ago laid over a 24" x 4" block - perhaps you can compare the neck blank dimensions shown to what you're planning to use to get a feel for if two of yours can fit. PLEASE NOTE that the neck pro...

Re: Idea for different way to attach fretboard.

Seems straightforward on paper, but it would assuredly not be in practice. The last thing you want in a neck is a rattle - so a dovetail approach such as you’ve drawn up would need to be good and tight. That much cross sectional area along a 24” length will yield a heck of a lot of friction... simpl...
