Re: Need assistance outlining earphone speaker circuit
If you google "Headphone amplifier kit" you will find plenty of kits- some with suitable boxes included or as options, but first you need to set some specifications for your needs. What is you intended use, and what will be your input sources? Headphones come in a variety of impedances, fr...

Re: Can someone walk me through speaker design? I have no idea.
One of the problems in speaker design, is that you can make almost all the wrongs there are, but unless you make a dead electrical short there will always be sound. If it sounds good is another story. MDF is commonly used in most commercial designs from cheap to very expensive, although some audioph...

One can use linear pots with resistors between one or both outer lugs to modify the taper, but it requires some calculations and experimenting....

Re: small jack on active electronics question.
Just a suggestion - I'd leave the 'ring' open, - not Connected. If someone by accident inserted a mono Jack into the socket, it would short circuit the signal.

The wide-ish stuff is 0.954" or 24.23mm - could someone at 3M just make up their mind here?? This dimension was obviously decided upon by committee. It's not 1" - can't offend the metric (most of the) world It's not 24 or 25mm - can't offend the 'Mericans It's not even a reasonable number...

Re: Looking for information on building a Varitone switch
These are known as engineering unit. Capacitance is measured in Farads, a unit way too large for practical use. Thus 1 uF ( microfarad) = 1000 nF = 1.000.000 pF. 1 mF=1.000 uF, although older components were sometimes marked 1mF=1uF, for lack of a proper micro-sign.... For signal applications, polye...

Hi guys..... I think this is somewhat cultural dependant. Worker titles have long traditions in Norway, for those that have a trade and skills to match. The norwegian term 'fagarbeider', which more or less translates to 'skilled worker', implies that you have a certain education and a certificate to...

Re: Experimental rail pickup construction: wiring question
Well, - I'm afraid that the field in a solder gun is not that well contained, as the tip is part of the secondary coil, with a fairly heft current,
That's how it works, OTOH - I don't think that it will do any harm for the few seconds that is needed

For this kind of soldering , a 25W iron is way too small...... I'd say 75-100 would do, even a simple cheap one...
Regular electronic solder also works......

Re: Considerations for hardwood amp cabinets
Hi guys.... I think the idea about resonances in hardwood cabs is as close as we can get, but still the energy needs to come from somewhere. If a resonance is excited, it will steal energy from the main output, making the frequency response even more uneven than the most popular guitar speakers are ...
