Re: Finally made a new soundhole/rossette cutter
That is a nice looking bit of kit!
I have been thinking about making something to score the edges of rosettes and that looks like a good design. When the small router bits we use get a little dull they can make fuzzy edges.
Can you post a few more views of that tool?

Re: Archtop Binding length
If you are looking for plastic PVC "Bolteron" type binding you can go to your local cabinet shop and buy several feet of 1" wide PVC edge banding . It comes in several thicknesses (1/2,1,2,3 mm) and costs pennies per foot. It can also be bought through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/W...

Re: Tonewood & body thickness
Imbuia might be a good choice. It should work similar to walnut and has a nice spicy smell. It also looks quite nice. Giannini built some guitars using that wood.

Koto's are cool, as are it's cousin the guzheng. if you stand them on end they don't take up much space. Genre is a state of mind: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDjeY72KaSo If you decide you like the travel guitar design I came up with I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about it....

Re: Some Basic Tuning Machine Questions
12:1 tuners allow you to change tunings quicker, but may be hard to tune precisely. 21:1 tuners allow you to tune more precisely but are slower to change the pitch. 14:1 and 18:1 are more commonly used and are a better compromise for most players. If you change tunings a lot in a set, then 14:1 migh...

Re: Do you ever just buy jigs? Feeling guilty, but swamped
If you like the shape of the LMI tenor uke, I see nothing wrong with buying the mold, especially if you are pressed for time. They look well thought out and reasonably priced. Some time back someone gave me a number of wooden cigar boxes. I wanted to turn them into cheap and cheerful ukes. I found I...

Re: Tenor Flute
For the embouchure and tone holes I would do something similar to what Peter has proposed - drill out the miss cut areas and plug them. You could plug them with a harder and contrasting material so they might appear as a "bushing" and intentionally done.

Re: 5th acoustic from a 1960 Wurlitzer piano
Lovely guitar,
The piano key fret markers are a nice touch. The spruce looks much nicer than the stuff I see on most old piano soundboards.

Re: First Build Milestone
Hi Eric, Your guitar is coming along nicely. Fit and finish are rarely perfect on our first instruments, but often they can sound quite good. The mistakes we make are not seen by many people unless we point them out to them. But it looks like you are off to a good start, and will have a nice instrum...

You could clean them with orange oil and then apply a very light coat of mineral oil.

Re: Should I attempt this repair?
Since you are new to this repair stuff I would recommend you use Titebond Original Wood Glue, but that is assuming that you can get the crack to close up completely. Thanks, Barry. I'll recommend he take it to a repair place first if he can find one. I'll look at it if he needs me to. -Eric Hi Eric...

Re: 5 string acoustic bass bass guitar
Here is a guitar design I made a number of years ago. It worked O.K. but had no real benefits over a conventional back shape for a "normal" guitar. I did consider using it for an ABG and actually laminated some back plates for it. I never got around to making the sides and it is still on m...

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information - does it sound any different than a soprano uke?
Nice looking instrument. I like the rope binding.

Re: Titebond liquid hide glue
Did you try heating it up? I wonder if heat would reactivate it like it does regular hide glue? Some people have made their own "old brown glue", but I forget now who it was that did that. I like to use hide glue for critical joints and places where cleaning the old glue off would be diffi...

Re: A medieval citole
Interesting instrument. What are the dimensions and tuning? The blocks delineating the fret positions is a nice touch.
I assume you added the Image to the Wikipedia article - it looks very nice.

Re: A child's size oud
Very Nice!
I had an old oud that had a non-wood rose (early plastic? glue coated parchment?) added to the back side of the soundboard rather than an integral one. Were you going to do that with this one?
