The timing of this discussion is bad...I spent the better part of a week with her and other luthiers just two weeks ago. I could have tactfully asked her.

Re: Acoustic Archtop
You could use a regular undersaddle type piezo or a Fishman type bridge with the pickup built into it if you don't mind drilling a hole under the bridge. I know it sounds scary drilling a hole under the bridge location but it will be covered by the bridge all the time. I do it on my mandolins, it ha...

That looks like a piezo wire pickup to me. I use that stuff sometimes, mostly in mandolins but it can work well in a guitar too.

Re: Bow Ties....
I have never made any bow ties, but I have made string ties. In the spirit of sharing photos, here is one of the ones I made. It's made from a fingerboard....a real Luthiers Tie.
Now let's see yours!

Re: New Project - 5-String Electric Viola
The most challenging part of this is getting a decent pickup. Electric violins have issues that other instruments don't, have you looked into how you'll tackle that?

If you look into some of the older Fender electric guitars, they have fingerboards that are hardly more than a veneer. It looks to be no thicker than the fret tang.

Re: Sparkly guitar, with weird pickups!
I made some pickups like that too. I liked mine! But I am not a fan of the cloth wire. There is no advantage to it at all other than the vintage look and vibe it gives. It's better and quieter to use a smaller, thin shielded wire. So much easier to work with!

Yes that is nice looking walnut Eric! If you ask me, you are doing about as well as can be expected with a three-wheel bandsaw. They are hard to operate and hard to get a good result when using them to re-saw.

I use Walnut all the time! And I would use the second orientation, I like the flame and I'd put that part in the lower bout. That looks like nice stuff.

Re: Smoked lacquer finish
I don't imagine it would have to be wet lacquer at all. Just use a thin coat to spray over the soot to seal it in and then the rest of the clear coats from there.

Re: Turquoise Stain
I would think so...I have sprayed blue tinted lacquer and the first thin coats looked like that. You will need to start out with a very light colored wood base for sure, white maple or something.
