Re: Brige glueing issue, "wavy" topped classical.
If you can't get Friendly Plastic, you could try plumber's epoxy (got to work fast) or whip up a batch of epoxy thickened with Micro-Lite or similar filler applied to a wood substrate. Not as friendly, or re-usable, but will get the job done. Don't forget the cellophane.

Re: Epoxy failures. I need some opinions
I always keep the cup I mix in and check it a couple hours later to see if it cured the way I expected. +1. Pour the thoroughly mixed epoxy into a clean cup to make sure there are no unmixed 'cling-ons' making it onto your gluing surfaces. There's more squeeze out, but I apply the epoxy to both sur...

Re: Epoxy failures. I need some opinions
Unlike HHG or Titebond, epoxy needs the mating surfaces to be roughened up a bit or 'keyed' to have a stronger 'mechanical' bond.

Why would you go through all that trouble when you can easily buy one that's already bleached? I'd give that one Fideaux.

Vote cast with congrats to all who completed (or not) their project(s). Having fell short on the last Challenge (under Deb) I know the meaning of challenge. It's beyond my comprehension how you completed 3 Patrick...that nylon string Pine did it for me.

Re: evo "gold" wire advice
Alan: on a hypothetical fingerboard with a radius of 12", you're bending EVO frets to a radius of >12", or <12"?
At this point I've only used NS frets but am looking to use SS frets for the first time on my current build. Would the advice offered for EVO hold true for SS?

Re: 12 fret Parlor guitar from Mark Swanson
Nice, I'll bet it sounds as sweet as it looks. How much CF is in the neck, and have you built any others like this? (w/o a rod, like the Yankees) If so, I'm kind of curious on how they've held up.

That's one pretty nice looking guitar. Only carbon fiber in the neck, no rod? If so, what dimensions CF, and if you've done this previously, how have those instrument's necks held up?

Georgia O'Keefe's art suffered the same criticism from some in the art world.Mario Proulx wrote:I think psychiatrists have a term for those who "see" 'risque' things within objects, shapes or, in our case, wood grain/figure.
I too wish there was a better title for threads like this.

I use a cheap Korg for everyday tuning (and may try one of those Snarks someday). For fine tuning and intonation, I use the even cheaper Tune Lab 97. They also have apps for Android and SmartPhones.

Re: X-Brace Reinforcement
The patch will come from the off-cut of the X-Brace it'll be reinforcing, so for 'aesthetics' I can 'try' to match the grain and should suffer no structural issues. Sonic issues? Not sure how long I'll make it, but at least 2", and HHG will do the rest. Thanks gents.

X-Brace Reinforcement
C & N show fabric reinforcement of the X-Brace joint, while other authors tout a thin wood strip but they're pretty non-specific about it. I want to use Red Spruce and have two pieces, both quarter sawn with the grain on one vertically oriented, and the other horizontal oriented (along the gluin...

The tidal surge on the south shore of Long Island was at least 6 -10 feet above mean high tide. I know folks who live in Coney Island and elsewhere along the south shore of LI who who lost their cars, homes, the works. I consider myself quite fortunate to only have suffered w/o electricity for 6 day...

If you're considering the braided fishing line Mark refers to, be advised that they can and will cut you (kind of like a wire cheese cutter only worse). These would include the low stretch Spectra lines (ie.: Spider Wire, Power Pro, etc.). I've never used Dacron line, perhaps it might be safer.

Re: Hoping for the best for our members on the US east coast
Yep, good luck fellow mid-atlantic and northeasterners. The gusts here are starting to shake the house a little, but the wind is gonna be the least of our worries here on Long Island. Even though Sandy's 'only' a Cat 1, we're in her NE quadrant and that storm surge (concurrent with a full moon) coul...

Lookin' good DJ.
Would a wash coat of shellac help lessen 'fuzzies' if not using a downcut bit? Scoring with a popsicle cutter before routing?

Re: Table saw won't start
I've done this too (successfully).Unplug the saw and (depending on the type of switch it has) take the cover plate off the switch and blow/clean any dust out. Also blow any dust out of the motor windings if there are cooling vents.
