Re: Making braces

Hi John, nice to see you back at MIMF. So, the jig for cutting the radius on the braces has stops or hold downs or something, that allows you to bend the brace at your desired curvature and hold it in that position while it is cut, and after it is released from the jig, it springs back, with a nice ...

Re: Bending irons

Arnt, Curious what material you are using as an insulator between the pipe flange and the board it is mounted to? TX Rick Rick, the top one has a piece of drywall, the bottom one I think has "Eternit", which is good 'ol asbestos  (NOT healthy to cut, and nearly indestructible). The...

Re: Binding scraper

Do you have to start the strip off a little smaller before pulling it through? Louie, I tilt the blade ever so slightly, so the opening is a little bit wider on one side. The binding or purfling strip can then be slipped in from the larger opening and pulled through, then flipped over and pulled th...

Re: Spruce!

Hi Samueli, I'll try to answer your questions All the literature (not instrument making related) I have, instructs to split from the side, not from the end of the log. It would make more sense to me to split from the end, just like You did, to avoid peeling and delamination. On the lenght/diameter r...

Binding scraper

Here's my binding scraper / sizing tool. Its ,made from some plywood and hadrwood scraps, a couple of bolts and wing nuts, and an old plane blade. Adjustments are done by lightly tapping the plane blade, like on a traditional wooden hand plane. It works fine... http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i100...

Bending irons

Here are a couple of mine (I have a couple more that I rarely use, like one with a regular 4" pipe and one 2"). Not pretty, but they work! The main one is a 4" pipe, slightly squeezed into an oval shape and welded onto a flange. It is perfect for normal guitar sides, as the varying ge...

Arnt Rian's Norway Spruce processing

My farmer neighbour’s been chopping down trees again. Here are some of the logs, all of them are Norwegian spruce, picea abies , which is the most common wood by far up here. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, but as you see, most of these are not large enough for guitar tops... Bummer! http://i70.p...

It seems there is no limit to how many you can link in, though (as usual, with these phpBB sites, I guess...?)

Bob, the "view active topics" function (which I would prefer to see available in all the sections, as already mentioned ... ;) ), is pretty much the same thing

Re: TNG forum feedback?

Yes, but we are not actually uploading pictures, right? At least I haven't seen an "upload pictures" button here. I just put a picture test thread over in "other instruments", with a picture that was linked in from my Photobucket account, where I keep all my web pictures. http://...
