Demand for custom multi scale bridges?

I just wanted to run a little survey to find out what people think about this subject. I've started making most of my guitars with various multi-scale configurations, and it seems like more and more builders are starting to experiment with it as well. I find the choice of bridges for this is rather ...

Re: Top wood causing whole body to warp?

Thanks Henrique. Yeah I did use standard titebond wood glue. I am actually fine with the shape the guitar has taken now, I just hope it doesn't move around any more. And I wish I could do this on purpose to make a cool domed top again :)

Top wood causing whole body to warp?

So I noticed that my top piece of joined koa that I am using for the top of this latest guitar was warping a bit while sitting on the bench before gluing to my semi-hollowed out piece of Alder. Depending on which side was facing up it would warp the other way by the next day. The weather has been ch...

Ooh, nice! The orange tinted lacquer looks great over the Korina, I wouldn't have ever thought to try that.

Re: Paul Gransee's 7th Bass

Nice I love it! Myrtle is awesome stuff too. How does the raising and lowering of the nut work? I'm a fan of aluminum nuts on some of my (non-bass) guitars, wonder how brass would sound on those....could be fun to try.

Re: Does the smell of Truoil go away?

My favorite way to apply true-oil is to give the wood an incredibly good finish to start with, using a very thin flexible scraper, very fine grit sandpaper, and grey 3m synthetic steel wool to make the wood almost shine with no finish. Then I apply maybe 3 coats of true-oil with a very old cotton t-...

Re: Port Orford Cedar for solid-body guitar???

I love Port Orford cedar. I've used it for a bass, with a camphor top, and thought it was a nice wood for guitars. Smells great and easy to work with. I bet using that with a Maple top would work great. I don't have anything more specific I can say...

Re: Your favorite hard durable finish for soft woods?

Wow really, the Rockhard isn't even as tough as Nitro? Ok, good to know. Man, I can't stand the fumes even using CA for small stuff, I can't imagine using it for a whole guitar... I guess I'll probably just stick to good ol True Oil since at least it's easy to repair, since I don't want to mess with...

Re: Your favorite hard durable finish for soft woods?

So yes, epoxy would do a good job of being a hard finish and protect wood from dents. Very hard to level, sand and polish though I'd suspect. I know you were kidding, but it's true. How about Behlen's Rock Hard Table Top Varnish? Any users? Sounds like a decent candidate. I know that guitars/basses ...

Your favorite hard durable finish for soft woods?

I'm refinishing a bass I made a while ago, that has a port orford cedar body, and a burl camphor top. Both are pretty soft and prone to dents and scratches. What is your favorite finish for this type of thing? Lacquer and shellac both don't seem hard enough. I haven't experimented too much with othe...

Re: Paul Rhoney's Paramour Baritone Prototype

Nice work Paul! Looks great. I really like the "R" backplate for the neck screws too. What are the pickups? Any sound clips?

That reminds me, I have always wanted to make a guitar in the Poppy Seed Red color of my uncle's '65 Mustang.

Oh also the production version on my guitar will be a nice dark copper color that should go along with the warm wood colors better than the black I have on there now..

Re: Dan Hehnke's Multi Scale Semi Hollow with Toone/Townsend Beta Hardware

Thanks Henrique, The weight was a concern for me too. The only part that concerned me was the tuner block, which is beefier than it needs to be in the beta version. The production version looks much lighter and sleeker, and Rick has said it is much lighter. I will report back when I get the producti...

Re: Dan Hehnke's Multi Scale Semi Hollow with Toone/Townsend Beta Hardware

Mark, here's a couple closer up pictures of the tuner hardware, and the nut. Doing the 45 degree route to mount the tuner block was a challenge, but I was lucky to have access to a manual drill mill to rough it out, then used chisels to finish it off. I can show details of the route if anyone is int...

Thanks for the comments! Jim, oh no, I don't want to make anyone not feel like posting...post away! I spent way too much time building and planning this guitar.....so yeah. Mark, I'll work on getting hardware pics up when I get home. You can also see details of it on Toone's site. I forgot to mentio...
