I can make "copies" that are half the price, better quality, and with exotic materials.
I donate all of my builds. The joy of giving is a rush.
It's also cool to experiment with different pickup configurations, weight relief, neck profiles, etc.

I wanted a RR offset-V. The stock colors are boring.

Re: Decal film & commercial printing
Did Kinkos print those?
I'm afraid risking the stuff thru my laser printer.
Can you let me know the brand name of the material?
Great logo!

Spindle and belt sanders for me. With a 1/4" router, you can use a 1" bit with a bearing on the inside of the bit, following a template, and then flip the piece over and use a bit with a bearing on the tip of the bit to follow the first cut. You may be able to find a longer bit if you have...

Re: Pickup book
Thanks to all for the information...I'll get searching, the pickups I've made so far are from scratch and seem to work well when rigged up on other guitars but I'm now in the middle of making a bespoke guitar for them so we'll see how that goes....Here's a picture, they're three pole and in a kind ...

You might do a search for Ken Mckay and Freeman Keller builds.
Both have documented some incredible work.

Re: FB Masking
Whatever you do, do not apply blue tape to a lacquered surface.
It will immediately start turning into a gooy mess.
I've tried to leave the fretboard sides free of finish, but it's a real pain to try to feather the finish flush to the edge of the board.

Re: Scarfed headstock joint question
Always method 2 for me. I've already surfaced the fretboard area flat.
Method 1 requires doing it again. I don't have a jointer, so I have to so it by hand.
Having the joint under the fretboard does not seem like a good idea.

Hey Scott, I made this using african mahog and chinaberry. The colors were pretty dissimilar. The chinaberry had pink tones in it. I applied an amber dye to both materials to make the overall color cohesive. I've done this on several builds where I was not pleased with the color difference. I usuall...

Is that a lacquer finish? I want to gift a guitar to a family member someday, but I don't know if I could ever bring myself to spray lacquer without getting paid!
Yes, nitro lacquer.

Re: Scarfed headstock joint question
Alan (and others) may correct my assumptions, but a few of my thoughts. . . The scarf does end up being in just the peghead if you glue it in that fashion. The thicker the blank, the further out there it will end up once it is all shaped. I like to thin that part of the blank so the scarf is closer...

Re: Scarfed headstock joint question
I Always put the joint in the head and apply a top veneer and sometimes a backstrap veneer. I don't like seeing the joint in the neck shaft. If I'm using figured wood, I don't flip the head and glue, I recut the angle so the same face of the wood is on the same side of the neck. This can help hide t...
