That is the Veritas Edge Guide system sold by Lee Valley.
It has distance stops that are easily adjustable also. It clamps to the edge of the surface plywood.
I made the router base from a small piece of lexan, but you could use plywood if you wanted.

Re: Neck Rebuild
I believe I mentioned above that "I took a few notes" from Barry Daniels.
Actually this jig is based directly off of Barry's design, and I need to acknowledge him for that.

Re: Neck Rebuild
Brian, Once you have a proper jig and a way to really control the router, such as this guide, routers are not so scary. I like this jig as it allows me to work on necks that are already built. On a neck that is under construction, it has been easier to use a router table. Now that I have this jig, I...

Re: Neck Rebuild
Here is the neck after routing.
Then it's on to routing the new narrower (1/4 inch) truss rod channel.
And here it is with the new channel filled. Just a bit of sanding to level it. Then it's on to routing the new narrower (1/4 inch) truss rod channel.

Neck Rebuild
One of my customers brought in a 1980's Aria Pro that had a worn out fret board and a broken truss rod. He is somewhat of a collector of these guitars, and desperately wanted to repair the neck. After removing the fret board and cleaning the surface, I removed the old truss rod. This thing was 15/32...

Re: Kahler Bridge
Freeman, Thanks for your input into this thread. Would you be able to take some detailed pictures and send them to me in a PM? I've never seen one up close, so I'm still guessing about the mechanism, and quality. It is a lot of money to spend on a bridge, and as I said initially I do want to be a su...

Re: Shielding guitar pickup cavities
I shield every guitar I make. I also wire the humbuckers for coil splitting, so it helps with the single coil hiss, hum, noise. I have considered not shielding if I'm going to simply use 2 humbuckers, but if the owner would like to coil tap later, it's already done. It takes less than an hour to do ...

Re: Differences in Lacquer?
Never having worked with Nitro-C, I cannot speak to it. Here in Canada, it is very difficult to get Nitro-C, so I have always used water based lacquer. I have had very good luck with it. The few times I have used a spray can, has been on small repairs. I really don't care for it for the reasons stat...

Re: 24 fret electric
I have built two 24 fret guitars, but both are neck through.
I don't think I would build a 24 fret with a short scale, like 24.5, or 24.75.
The frets get awful close together even with a 25.5 scale.
It also shortens the distance between the pickups.

Re: Twist in neck blank
Another use is to cut it into 1-3/4 wide strips and use it as a laminate center strip in an electric body. Bindings, etc.
There's lots of uses for it, but I hear you about having to travel 50 miles to select another piece.

Barry, Nice Work!
Were you able to hear a difference in the sound of this guitar, with all the changes in bracing you did?

Re: Neck Reset
Thanks for the advice Paul. :) My plan is to use epoxy glue to stick the remaining plies together, and then sand. After that I will add a veneer patch to help level it off. The dovetail will need some shims, and I will use veneer for that too. I have some veneer that is a about .010 thick. I'm going...

Neck Reset
Here is a couple pics of a neck reset I am in the middle of. The neck has been removed, and the angle reset, but the body needs a bit of repair. As you can see, the body top "wood" has delaminated a bit. I wouldn't normally do a neck reset on a guitar with a laminated top like this, but it...

This is a vice I made that uses C=clamps as the tightening method.
It is wide enough to clamp an acoustic body.

I drilled two holes; one in the center and one on one end.
I utilize the hole on the end for the fret press also.

Re: Handcrafted Luthier Tools
I'm not sure this qualifies, but I made this from watching videos of people using it. I just watched how it worked and figured it out. The whole thing cost about 50 dollars, as compared to over about 275 plus shipping, if I were to buy one. I don't know why, but this pic won't load right side up. Si...

Re: Coolest or most useful tool that you have?
Barry,
I have used, and still use a chop saw for all kinds of guitar related functions.
I cut most of my rough stock to length with it.
I also used it for a special design I wanted to build. Great for cutting exact angles.
Here is the result.

Re: Lester neck thickness
In every neck I have made except one, I have a slight taper from the 1st to the 12th.
Not huge, about 1/16 or 3/32.
The one I made with no thickness taper feels a bit weird to my hand. It still plays nicely.

Even though I didn't get to see pics of the top removal, I have enjoyed this thread immensely.
Nice job on the burst! Better than new.
