Re: Eddie McRae - BluesHound biscuit-bridge resonator

Thanks all. I've always been a BIG fan of the old Nationals. Never cared much for the Dobro line. I've built quite a few of these, and as I've progressed in building them, I have learned an interesting fact. They're basically the opposite of what you would think....and the opposite of an acoustic. I...

Re: Eddie McRae - Dead Man's Hand custom T-Type

Funny you said that Mark. Actually the name of the band is "Dead Man's Hand". And even more suiting, the customer's name is Bill and his nickname in the band is Wild Bill. I got the idea to do this with a guitar years ago when the movie Harley Davidson and the Malboro Man came out. Mickey ...

If anyone's interested and would like to see, the link is to a photo album of pics taken during the building process.

Thanks guys. The theme of this guitar coincides with the name of the customer's band.

Thank you Rodger. At least 80% of my finishes are bursts.

Re: Eddie McRae - BluesHound biscuit-bridge resonator

Thanks guys. I'll be finishing up with a tricone as well in the next few days as soon as the hardware and parts arrive for it. All the finish work is done, just waiting on the cone, bridge, and coverplate to come in.

Thank you Thomas. It's given me a problem or two but I'm still managing to move along.

Re: $100 Local Materials Challenge, Eddie McRae, Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic

Thanks Mark! Since I use a 3-bolt neck attachment system, I use the CF supports on all my acoustic-type builds. A good friend of mine owns an archery shop and he saves all his shaft cut-offs for me rather than throwing them away.

Re: $100 Local Materials Challenge, California redwood, walnut OM

Very nice! I'm crazy about black walnut and use it quite a bit. Nice to see someone else using it too! Nice job on the rosette also. Looking good!

Kerfings glued and carbon fiber support rods installed. Also glued in some side braces as well. I've got quite of bit of sanding to do on the radius dish now.

Re: Tristan Williams - 8-string fanned fret Iceman-ish

You've got WAY more ambition and determination than me! If I had to resaw by hand, I'd probably quit building altogether! LOL As for your question about the walnut, I don't see where it would cause any issues. Especially if you decide to laminate with maple. Looks good!

Ahh, gotcha. I knew it was your software, just wasn't sure if it was indicative of the actual finish you were gonna use. I've done a few goldtops recently which is the reason I asked.

Re: built for amplification advice

I've installed several K&K's but they were transducer only and were installed into mandolins. I haven't used any of their products on guitars. The one thing I noticed about the mandolins though was that the K&K made the tops super-sensitive. The transducers pick up the very slightest of touc...

Re: $100 Local Materials Challenge, Eddie McRae, Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic

David, I'm located in the sticks (VERY rural area) so there's really nothing local for me. lol The nearest city is 40-50 miles from me. So there are really no metal fabricators (other than myself) nearby. I normally just order anything I need online. I use Enco and MSC products a good bit for my mil...
