Re: Glues Without Animal Products Or Animal Testing.
Yes, I'm looking for a replacement for the Titebond glue I have been using. It is surprising how many hidden animal products are in everyday household items. I'll still use the Titebond while I look for alternatives. Thanks for the suggestions. It is a farily simple chemistry. After having read the ...

Re: Slim Nylon strung cross-over plans?
I have taken a guitar of a similar size, traced it's outline, then worked the shape into what I have in mind for the guitar I am planning. I keep the original tracing untouched and cut and modify the half pattern (that becomes a full pattern when unfolded) on separate pieces of brown wrapping paper....

Re: Slim Nylon strung cross-over plans?
I used to look high and low for various guitar plans. Then I realized I was the one making the guitar; and I could make the guitar any size, shape, or form that I wished. I suggest a modified lattice brace with an off center, oval sound hole.

No. But, if you listen on Spotify, the artist receives some recompense.

I knew it would work! Now if we could invent round things that we could put under heavey boxes to facilitate moving them easily.

Re: Pressed Double Top Arch Top Instruments With Nomex!
Well, I think it's high time someone builds a double top archtop. I couldn't start on one till next year sometime. This is like one of those ex aviation engineer projects that could prove fruitful and lead to a paradigm shift in modern lutherie or end in horrific disaster.

Pressed Double Top Arch Top Instruments With Nomex!
Just wanted to run that one up the flag pole. You might as well do the back double too, since you got the jig out. Just a suggestion.

Re: Best Wood To 'Ebonize' For Early Romantic Bridge and Fingerboard.
Yes, I believe I needed permission to substitute a rosewood for ebony. Weight, price, tone, all considerations in building a modest personal guitar. I started this guitar with a kit from LMII, but the jumbo sized Sapele set was so beautiful I had to make a larger guitar. This one will be all 2nd gra...

Best Wood To 'Ebonize' For Early Romantic Bridge and Fingerboard.
Keeping the weight down is a concern. Also something in the mellow end of the spectrum to compliment an Englemann spruce top and Khaya neck and body. Thank you.

Re: Neck Construction With a few Sharp Hand Tools
Wait! The Peabody? Isn't that where Ana Vidovic teaches? I'm down the block about ...26 miles. I'm just taking the wood back to the desert with me. If I build the necks here in the humidity ...well, the shop is about 10% RH. I keep every thing in big zip-lock bags and 'swamp cool' the shop to about ...

Re: Carving tools?
Read George Buchanan book Making Stringed Instruments for traditional carving methods. It may be the single greatest book ever written. Traditional Woodworker has a good selection of small adzes. Woodcraft has scorps and such. Woodcraft and Traditional Woodworker may be the two greatest tools stores...

Les Stansell has posted some great guitar construction videos on Youtube that you may find helpful. Les works real fast, but you'll be able to see the level of skill is needed.

I'm moored to the Peabody in Baltimore. Perhaps this question would be best addressed at a Musical Instrument Makers Anonymous meeting.

Re: Neck Construction With a few Sharp Hand Tools
I have two nice spoke shaves back in the shop. I could use a 2nd cut rasp. I don't usually use Shur-forms, so I don't have one. I've always wanted a router plane, but I use a table saw back home. I only need three necks for early romantic style guitars and a couple of classical necks. I've really li...
