Re: The best kept secret in the musical instrument industry....

I'm glad I waited before jumping in here. In the world of classical guitars there has been, and continues to be, evolution of the instrument. The sole reason for this is that players have continued to evolve and they have sought out guitars that can do what they ask it to do. The skill level of play...

Jason, so do they dry out eventually? And do they stay dry?

How well does the OSMO polyx oil fill pores as in mahogany?

Also, has anyone used dye prior to applying OSMO?

Re: Is this too much for an edge trimming/flush cutter?

For future reference: I have a router permanently mounted under my workbench for this purpose (and others)....but it does really speed things up to begin the habit of trimming the top and back closer to size before glue up. If you put a good sized scrap sheet of veneer on your bandsaw, make a cut, s...

Re: balanced tone and the unwound G string

I don't much like bronze strings on archtops period!! Why don't you try some John Pearse nickel strings...they have a jazz set that is .012-.052. and is balanced. You can buy them direct.

Seems like a three handed tool...I only got 2. For instance, precision routing inlays.
Would be nice to see on video...different applications.

Otherwise, beautifully made!

I would also "emphasize" what Todd said and go a step further by starting with the blade cutting air and bring the blade out in minute steps until you see dust. You can now control the blade at the finest level, increasing or decreasing depth. It's well worth the practice because in time y...

Re: Titebond won't set up

I just went to my local hardware store armed with the code: All of the Original Titebond was from 2014. They are buying it as "new" from their suppliers. When I showed them how to check age they were flabbergasted! And they are going to get NEW Titebond for sale. I live in the Rocky Mtns o...

Temperature could be an issue...make sure you tell them the temp when you call.

They've been very helpful when I've called in the past.

Re: Old Kay - To Refinish or Not

There's nothing so charming as an old guitar.
If you refinish it the old guitar is gone and you will be left with Regret.

Clean it and get it working as close to original as possible.

Re: Here's a strange question--bringing a new brace chisel to market

There's nothing I can't do with an excellent straight chisel, so a curved one would be both unnecessary and useless. Learning to properly use the tools we have is better than inventing crutches... It's amazing to me how few chisels reside in the bench rack that are used daily. And how many reside i...

Re: bolt on neck question

Barry, yes you're right. I do bolt on's for cutaway flattops and glue the fingerboard down on them. It's easy enough to undo if a reset is needed...not so with an archtop. Thanks.

Re: Re-setting Neck with Faux Pearl Fretboard

I had one of those with the same problem. The fingerboard is celluloid and heat is dangerous. I chose to heat-bend the neck with a heat lamp, applying the heat to the back of the neck. It did work some, though not as well as a reset, by any means, and I was not satisfied and sold it as it was. Looki...
