Thanks.
The main reason why i did not just do it is the questions on tools and procedure for the slots on the sides, which need to be done first, see

Re: Cutting fret slots failed. And now?
What do you think of the following idea to hide the gap frm the back (where it is widest)? Regarding the gaps on the sides. These are much more narrow. I am considering to do a very narrow inlay of, say 1.1-1.25 mm (< 1/20 in), but i am completely unsure on the best way to cut such a slot. The cutaw...

Re: Cutting fret slots failed. And now?
Well, the same neck: a nasty mistake while fitting it - the neck pocket was so tight that i did not fully see that misfit because the neck never was correctly in the pocket :-( The gap appeared to be a lot narrower as you can see from the slice of maple it dit already fit into the slot. And i should...

Re: Piezo Bass Preamp
If Your idea was right, the input impedance would in fact be 150k||470k, i.e. even less.

Re: Piezo Bass Preamp
I do correct You 'cause You are wrong R4 does not at all affect the input impedance, it is *solely* R1.
The ratio of R1 and R4 determines the amplification

Addition (in German), quoted from a German forum - to link it does not correspond to our rules here. Please paste the text into an online translator if You can't read German. Background is an amplifier for LoZ pickups. The recommended LT1112 is pin compatible with the TL72, less noisy (the noise of ...

Re: Piezo Bass Preamp
There is no indication in the redcircuits paper what the input impedance is. But You can read it directly from the schematics: 150 kOhm. FAR to small for a piezo preamp. Piezos need more that 1 MOhm. Even the 3.3 Meg of the Till JFET buffer i linked is on the low side. As for the Opamps: the TL072 ...

Re: Piezo Bass Preamp
Here a really simple solution, which works really well. With a reduced input resitance i am using with magnetic pickups as well. http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/index.html And here something for the Jazz Bass: http://ozvalveamps.org/repairs/circuits/stomps/jfet-bass-preamp_sch21-albert-kre...

Re: Cutting fret slots failed. And now?
Just another question: what if such a mistake would have occured in an instrument for sale (which is not the case here)? What would the market demand / accept such repairs in new instruments (of course if the client had been told and given a suitable discount)? To me that would be a target conflict ...

Maybe it is useful to plane that neck and leave it for a future build if it remains stable?

Crowdfunding to save (violin?) tonewood
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post.... Last October was really stormy in the Italian alps and it destroyed large amounts of old spruce trees suitable for instrument tops. A (wood dealing?) company is trying to recover as much as possible of the wood, but they are seeking for more ...

Re: Dead cherry tree
May i ask how long You dried the wood? And did you dry it as those two halves or did you roughly resaw it "early"?
We have the trunk of a dead mountain ash in the garden - about the same size as Your cherry - and it needs to be removed completely.

I would actually try to do a 2 or 3 piece neck with such wood and try to orient the grain that it will stabilize itself.
